Is there any way to sell tomes?

If they're looted from chests they'll be unbound & can be sold in the auction house or astral shard auction house the same as any regular item. Bound ones can't unfortunately, so you'll need to pass them through the shared bank to an alt that can use them, or they can be traded for purified eberron dragonshards (sadly also bound) to use in cannith crafting - they're used for the unbound shards & Lynnabel has revealed they're also going to be needed for a number of new multi-effect cannith crafting shards too once Isle of Dread is released.

Some tomes from chests are BTA or BTC (I recently pulled a +1 Racial BTC tome that I passed to someone who could use it) so check before you pull it out.

The trick for Purified Eberron Dragonshards is one I tell people I give crafted shards to as I remind them they can (usually) get a free +2 tome BTC every life for favor.

Nice to know there will be something else I can use the extra BTA tomes for now.

I've pulled a total of four +7 tomes from daily dice roles so far.

All 4 are CHA tomes. Real helpful.

If you're a Cannith crafter definitely turn them in for the purified shards. Those are the primary limiting factor in unbound crafting.

Yeah, as stated above, if they're unbound, sure, on the Auction House (for +1 or +2) or the Astral Shard Exchange (for +1 and higher). Every server is going to have a different supply/demand and "going price", so scan your economy to get a feel for how to price.

(And you can also try the /Trade channel while you're online.)

If they're bound, then your only option is to turn them in to something useful...
(DDO Wiki (https://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Ability_tome):)
"...Speak to any vendor in one of the Crafting Halls, select "Trade Essences", and when the UI pops up drop the tome (one at a time) in the window."

I've got thousands of purified shards, I definitely don't need more as much as I need a +7 tome that's not CHA.

Those are the primary limiting factor in unbound crafting.

Clearly wrong. Primary limiting factor always was unreasonably high level to unbound crafting and exorbitant collectables price of unbound crafting recipes.

The crafting collectibles are a really annoying "what might have been". If built correctly, they could have provided a nice alternative currency or revived the plat economy. Simple, unbound, something anyone can "Collect", its a great idea.

...until SSG decided to make 113 different items AND gated them by level.

The goal of a good crafting system is to create a market in which everyone can participate. IE: none-crafters gather supplies and sell them to the crafters, who make finished items and sell them to other players. Reducing the umpteen-million different essences-types down to 1 was a great step. Making it so you can't put a "buy it now" on that 1 type was a horrible mistake. Then making 113 different collectibles spread across all level ranges turned it into a nightmare. What is "rare" for one crafter may be super common for others(I know I've got about 500 crypt moths) and nobody can keep track of the market. There really is no market, its so complicated that no bothers. Its easier to go and farm the specific collectible you as a crafter need than to hope someone's got some up for sale.

Really frustrating.

Lynnabel has revealed they're also going to be needed for a number of new multi-effect cannith crafting shards too once Isle of Dread is released.

Where was that mentioned? I don't recall seeing that in dev tracker anywhere.

In an interview with Strintom https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9S1GTcNoZc, I assume more info will be on Lammania for the next preview.

I like how a simple question about tomes became a discussion about crafting :)

However, I was literally just thinking, why do the collectible bags from mobs drop such a tiny range of items. For example, in Sharn I was getting nothing but Funeral Tokens and Blades of the Dark Six. Can't these bags provide a bit more variety to help ease the annoyance of crafting?

I know there are a (very limited) few others from certain mobs and in certain areas, but I'm so sick of seeing those 2 particular items all the time.

Pretty sure it's linked to lore so that it makes some degree of sense what you find - kobolds will often drop prayer beads because that's a cultural item, ditto blades of the dark six, while things like flesh renders will drop planar spoor because you just kicked the **** out of them.

This is why official information needs to be posted to the forum & also why videos should have transcripts
