View Full Version : HE Kensei/Arcane Archer 2 Monk/6 Ranger/12 Fighter

It's been a very, very, very long time since I have last touched DDO, but I'm starting to poke around again for the first time in like over a decade. One of the builds I found intriguing (and started working towards as I had initially rolled as an Elf, not a half elf and wasn't quite far enough along to TR, but far enough that I really didn't want to reroll) was https://forums.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/289591-Helves-Angel-A-Burst-DPS-Build-(12ftr-6Rgr-2Monk).

In a nutshell, you're using the Half-Elf racials to give you Sneak Attack with everything else giving you enough feats to make it work so you have a functional (albeit not great) melee option for when you get swarmed with a much preferred ranged option that allows you to flex the enchants on the arrows to better tailor your bow to bypass resistences and immunities (or just CC with terror and paralysis arrows). As an FYI, you will need either something that gives you ranged alacrity or the Quiver of Alacrity from the Black Abbot because having a lot of ranged alacrity helps makes the bow feel better and allows you to run and shoot.

As an FYI, you can also do this with an elf, but you are going to be sacrificing much of the melee to make it work because you'll be taking rogue instead of monk which means you are going to have to forgo cleave and greater cleave. I also didn't know what to pick for the level 30 feat so it was like "I guess Mobility's good here?" Input on that (or the build in general) is appreciated.

Time has been unkind to melee/ranged hybrids. You're better off picking a lane and sticking in it. If you're interested in archers, look into Carpone's Horizon Walker builds (https://forums.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/530531-U53-Ranged-Showdown-Damage-Calculations-for-17-Builds). If you want to melee, you don't need a heavy multiclass like this anymore.

If you want to melee, you don't need a heavy multiclass like this anymore.

Eh, main point of the build was to put Kensei and Arcane Archer together and throw Sneak Attack into the mix. The melee investment is really only three feats (Power Attack, Cleave, and Great Cleave) plus whatever else is granted from the classes.

Is Horizon Walker strictly better than ranged Kensei?
