Direct X 12 / Windows 11

Hello All

I have a new Alienware with Direct X 12 / Windows 11 installed.
I can't get the game to stop crashing after the opening screen because it is saying "you must have directx 9 installed or better...".
I've tried the dxwebsetup.exe and other adivice I've seen but I can't resolve the fact that under 1920 x 1080 resolution, the game is not filling the whole screen and it crashes the moment I try to hit "optimize graphics". It also will not allow me to even change certain features under options...

Processor 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-12900HK 2.90 GHz
Installed RAM 64.0 GB (63.7 GB usable)
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Needed to open in full screen (windowed) IO full screen...

Make sure you installed this. Download it to your C: drive then run it. The web installer version doesn't like to install the needed files if you have a higher version of DirectX.

OMG alienware?that bloated zero airflow ware? my commiserations, you going to need it its going to die very badly.. in a month or 2

Do not use the web setup version since it detects a newer version installed and won't allow you to install the legacy files you need.

Really makes you wonder why, esp after 15 years, this can't be included in the setup script.
Also, why isn't this stickied as the first entry in technical support sub forum?

For the OP, it isn't just win11 but just about every windows o.s. after win98.

It seems I just needed to fix in options the windows mode (view). Very simple fix actually but I am sure there are problems in general as you mention.

FYI I have a 3 or so year old Alienware Aurora R9 that I have had no problems with. I do admit that its a goofy looking machine and I dont know how it keeps cool but it does. Maybe its the fact that I have a liquid cpu cooler? IDK, When I open the case to blow out the dust, there basically is next to nothing in there. But again, no problems or freeze ups to this point.
