Hello,

I miss those "guard" items.

Just because some end game people complained that they were not working / not scaling with levels.

I never cared about them not scaling. I was happy about every single point of damage they did.
I even crafted a few of these items, when that was still possible. Unfortunately, only a few.

Of course, end game people (especially those with multiple lives on their chars) don't look at what guard items do in the lowest levels. And there, where every single point (for example out of 50 hit points) counts, they really matter. But people don't (want to) see that.

So, they got removed.
Even although in the lower levels people could profit from them (50 hit points are drained away fairly quickly in the Butcher's Path without any healer Hireling).

Personally, I'd like them to return. I don't care about scaling. I'm happy about every single point of damage they do.
But, I suspect, that people would rather have these items not to return if they were not scaling.A group of players trying to shape the experience for everyone.

Well, I'm keeping my own "guard" items as highly prized items in my banks. Every low level and sometimes even higher level char gets them. Especially "good" and "light are nice guard items.

I'd like to have them back.
I'd like to be able to craft them as well.
But I fear that those voices will reappear once again : "They are not scaling !".

I'll do as you ask. PROCs that rely on you to be hit at end game will frequently kill the wearer so they're meaningless at end game and I'm happy they got removed ;)

To make them work they need to function when also 1)missed, 2) hit but DR of any kind absorbs it 3) nullmagic guardd working against casters in spite of spell absorption

then you want some kind of scaling but through special boosts, eg wand and scroll mastery-type effects in a tree, gear with some new boost like Improved Augmented guards etc.

They need to generate hate too or no one will attack a guarded toon unless soloing.

It wouldn’t make it to endgame but it could work in heroics.

Guard effects were removed from random loot, because they literally never worked as intended on those items (only dealing one die of damage instead of whatever they claimed to do), and fixing it proved to be too big of a challenge in relation to their usefulness across 30 levels, especially with the goal of making random/CC gear scale better with named gear of similar level (which also effected the low levels a lot, as flaming, shock, etc. got a damage buff) in addition to the augment rehaul (which also made many augments much better, especially mid-heroics).

On named items, the guard effects did function as intended (like bracers of sun and moon), and these items are still there.

If I were to rehaul the entirety of the item scaling to prepare DDO for the next steps (ED rehaul, cap increase, etc.) I'd also drop stuff within that just wouldn't want to function without a second thought, as the task would be immense enough already.

Do the game really need the guard items? Not imo and especially not in their broken form. If they would get an overhaul and scale with PRR or MRR plus hate-generation, it'd be great to level your tank that way without an LR at the end, as then it would feel rewarding to get hit instead of an item, which makes you actually hit harder.
