It's been a very long time since I wrote up the original Monk guide.
Since then, much of its content has become quite antiquated and obsolete.

A new guide was needed. It took some time to complete what is available.
But with the announcement that Update 53 now offers the Monk as a free class for all players, I had to get something completed.

Free at last! Free at last! Thank the Hosts all-mighty! We're free at last!

(Thanks, Tolero and all in SSG for that happy news.)

So, in conjunction with the release of Update 53, The Book of Syncletica 2nd Edition is now available. (https://bookofsyncletica.wordpress.com/)

This was rushed to release, as I said. It'll lack illustrations I'd prefer. Priority for me is completing Heroic gameplay chapters. Don't trust the home page sidebar menus; use the top page menus.

No epic gameplay content just yet as I acquaint myself to the new Epic Destinies and build on its revisions.

A chapter on Hardcore server play is added. A guide where some favorite builds you might like will be available as soon as I work out a plan to share them.

Please leave comments, corrections and criticisms here for me to grow this new 2nd edition into a useful tool for all.

Congratz! Had a look, that is a lot of work!

I think a great option is to go deep into the Whirling Steel Strike builds that use Knight's Training. It is very powerful for weaponized, non-staff monks, vastly better than shortswords. The relic blades with IC slashing get a 15-20/3 crit profile, really good and gets better in epics on a pure monk or kensei splash. They are just really feat-heavy and if pure you will be an elf for longsword proficiency (or human if you want to sink a feat in longsword proficiency).

Nice idea. The (currently empty) builds chapter will be a great place to add that and your older kama build I recall from back in the day.

Ahh the old brush hook approach! I wonder if it holds up to longswords now. Ploughshares add 1 to threat range (that is a feat cost) then ninja spy doubles it—what would that put it at? 14-20? If so that does not quite make it as good as longswords with which there are more named options than just the one set of hooks. They both benefit from IC slashing so maybe just do both?

With longswords one could even do Henshin tier5 in heroics for the easy SCEWL heal until epics and the Candle effect will be stronger with a 15-20 crit ranged weapon with offhand hits

"Still, there is a practice where you may explore your and find your destiny." This sentence seems a little off. Then, it could just be me too. It is on the welcome page.

While some races may have racial enhancement selections that can (add) additional enhancements. On the monk enhancement trees page.

You won’t get to choose this philosophy strike until you reach Monk level 3. A special feat slot that accepts only these two feats will be provided. I got lost here; did not know we were talking philosophy yet, or maybe I missed something.

Okay, that is all for now. Next reading will be character building.
