View Full Version : What happened to the "automatically unlock doors when used" feature?
Question2005

I'm referring to being able to automatically use the open lock skill when interacting with locked doors to open it in one go, instead of manually using open lock and then opening the door. I remember a dev talking about this a few years ago saying they had managed to get it to work in testing. It obviously hasnt made it to live. Does anyone know what happened to it? Was the feature axed?

this would be nice. also if it would automatically open doors and chests after you unlock them that would be nice too. who unlocks a door and doesn't open it afterwards? its a given that if you unlock it you're gonna open it so why not save us a step?

Maybe the rogue doesn't want to be framed by the open doorway after unlocking it - maybe it is a good idea for the tank to block the doorway instead? Just a suggestion.

If the tank wants to stand infront of the doorway, nothing stops him from doing so, players dont block each other like in tabletop D&D.

Maybe the tank is busy with some other mobs while the rogue is unlocking the next door (the west end of VON 5 comes to mind).
As for chests maybe one of the other characters can bless the chests (with the Dragonmark of Finding) so the rogue doesn't want to open it. (I know the Dragonmark isn't used much, but hey.)

Give the unlock door skill a submenu on the hotbar just like the meta-magics have, you can even use the same text "always-on" for the click door once and unlock option if you asked me.
Or have it say "unlock only" if you don't want auto-unlock-and-open-in-one-go version.
Isn't the unlock animation breakable? As in you can make some move to break off the unlock action?

I mean, thats up to the party really...if you are doing high reaper and you need the tank to be the first one through the door, then its up to the rogue to wait for the tank.

Some doors are like this on the live servers already. The slave pen doors in House of Broken Chains will pop open the instant you unlock them. So, they can do it.

Those arent door doors though, they're breakables...

Does anyone remember which dev said they had gotten it to work on their test server? Might have been Lynnabel maybe?

Could just work like how it works when you find the key for a door, you hear a click, the opening door bar starts and you can move to stop opening the door?

its a given that if you unlock it you're gonna open it so why not save us a step?Because it's not a given. I almost never open a door I unlock unless I'm soloing.
Stop assuming your playstyle is universal.
