Why did you not use it before?

Indeed, it should still be active:

https://www.ddo.com/en/15thanniversary

The Coupon Code is available to redeem once per account through December 31st, 2021.

Since tomorrow is officially the weekend and a holiday, perhaps the plug was pulled early while the requisite people were available.

alt account. Haven't been playing my main account for most of the year. Thought I used it. Not the point though. The announcement page says code good through Dec. 31, 2021. And apparently from reading another post it looks to have been expired for some time.

True

though the way DDO has a history to treat "through" a date matches closer to your experience than the literal interpretation

exactly why I haven't been vip for 2 years now. Multiple reasons. Though in a moment of weakness (I guess) I bought a hundo in points last night.

In a post in another tread it seems the code was expired also on the 30th. So How long has it been expired?

I used it last night.
We need JOTMON's GIFF of the clueless guy pushing the button.
Maybe they came to work turned it off and went home.
Why not wait till end of working day?
Comes down to work ethic.

Yeah I used it on my main account months ago. I haven't logged into my alt account pretty much all year at all. I actually thought I did use it. I logged onto the account a few days ago to favor farm to get ravenloft on the account never logged into the main toon/server till today. All the 99 dp xpac's are still on sale as of today.

DDOQUESTS2021 also expired prematurely. Wanted to spice up an alt account, with points purchase and all. Bummer :-/

Time zone of the server ?

telling people not to wait til the end is pointless, there's always going to be an end date, the point is that the vast majority of players took the wording as the code being available on the 31. If you work "Monday through Friday" that doesn't mean Thursday at 11:59 you clock out for the week.

I really hope they redo both codes for another day or 2 or a week or something. Many disappointed people that, due to holidays or whatever, were planning on getting everything settled today.

Why procrastinate?

It's 9:45 on the West Coast (US). I just got home from a dinner, and was running with 2 people (also on the West Coast) who had the same frustration.

"through December 31st" does not (usually) mean "through the start of Dec 31st".

This is a very odd "Thank You".

In DDO land that is regular

But I agree it could have handled better

It is much more often the OTHER way around. Normally when they say "through" whatever, it isn't until the next morning after that date that things get turned off. I am so flipping glad I took care of the anniversary stuff the night before, but like others, missed out on some things I had wanted to do today as well. For people asking why people are procrastinating:
1 - Human nature
2 - Some people are busy and schedule their time around due dates, aka priorities
3 - People believed an official posting saying it would still be valid and saw no reason to do it earlier

Yes, free stuff is free, but this was very poorly handled. Hopefully they do a grace period for their timing mistake, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

This isn't this first time that through a date has translated to it ending early on that date thou it is entirely possible that the opposite is true in some instances

Just feel like to me there is zero consistency on that and a lack of clarity created by that

I agree it's poorly handled I just know that it's not the first time we had an earlier shutoff

I even had a friend who had been away from DDO because as you stated life gets busy attempting to use the code yesterday

Why procrastinate?

Maybe its not all procrastination. We had just learned my son's best friend got a computer for Christmas. We tried to help him download the game and use the code for the Free quests on the last day it said it was available so that he and our son could play together. But sure I suppose we could have used Divination and a crystal to ball to know he would get a computer from his uncle and that someone at SSG would jump-the-gun and turn off the code early. Oh wait I forgot Divination is an ignored spell school for DDO.

Could be that they are in an international market so it ends at 23:59:59 at UTC +12 so that would nearly be a full 24 hours early if you are on the west coast of the US?

If they didn't include a time zone (and I don't recall if they did or not) then that would make some sense. Granted their market is largely North American so while logical it would be silly.

This is a possible explanation of what happened. I tried the code around 9:50am PST. Maybe these promotions are being controlled in Sweden and not by Daybreak/SSG. (as Daybreak is a subsidiary of EG7)

So that means they also have GM's available to the same 24 hr international market.

Right?

Right?Funny. We all know there aren't any GM's in DDO! sadly I honestly believe that is true. I don't think I have had an actual live DM interaction in 2 years (several tickets in that time however). I do get interaction through emails though and people can check what is essentially email any where at any time.
