View Full Version : Why is the total of my permanent destiny points LESS than my total Epic past lives?

It seems I must have done something wrong, but I have no clue as to what it might be.
After completing a recent reincarnation, my character is credited with having 17 permanent destiny points.
Yet, my epic past lives total 19: Epic Completionist-1, Ancient Blessings -1, Ancient Knowledge-3, Ancient Power-3, Block Energy-3, Brace-3, Doubleshot-1, Power over Life and Death-2, and Skill Mastery-2.
Clearly, something is amiss, and I need help finding out what I did wrong.
Please offer any comments that explain this discrepancy, and thank you so VERY much for your help.

Each epl gives 1 Fate point. 3 fate points = 1 destiny point. Every 12 past lives also gives 1 destiny point on top of that.
It takes 3 epl to get 1 Fate point, so 9 epl per destiny point, plus 1 for every 12 epl for Epic Completionist.

Thank you White and Taraborn!
Over the 15 years that I've played, I made a LOT of mistakes so naturally assumed the worst.
I'm glad that this ONE time I wasn't guilty.
Thank you both for your replies, and I hope that you have a safe and prosperous 2022!

Clearly, something is amiss
The only thing amiss is that they created a needlessly convoluted conversion system of fate points to destiny points to disguise how decreased in value fate points and fate point tomes have become in the new system.
I'm not saying I see an immediate better choice they could have made, I'm just saying its confusing and dissatisfying.

As someone trained in both math and risk, my eyes glaze over as a safety mechanism as soon as I read that destiny-fate-point three card molly description. Jeez, what absolute bananas folks.

I think calling them both "points" was the big mistake. Fate "points" don't make a lot of sense since you don't spend them.
My suggestion has been "fate scars", which denote the hardening of the soul (hence more HP and SP). "scars" do have more of a negative connotation though.

Seems like the fate point system was created working backwards from the cost of Epic Otto's and what kind of house and car a dev wanted to buy.

The effect of tomes of fate and general slow accrual of permanent destiny points was because when the level cap goes up, we'll be getting 4 more ED points with each level and they don't want people to have 200 ED points at level 40 and able to max out all 3 of whichever trees they choose.

I think they should've just not created Destiny Points and just measured everything in Fate Points. 12 FP per level (adjust hp accordingly on level up), one FP per EPL, three FP for EComp, and Destiny tomes just become +3 FP tomes
It's far less confusing to just know your FP number and divide by three than to try and calculate your PDP from various sources and then add it up

Yup, it’d be nice if the breakdown was explained in the very screen you spend date points in.
Just show the breakdown and source of things , instead of these fairly random numbers.

Agreed, it really should show a useful breakdown so you don't have to go to some website or something to find out how this convoluted system works.

the dev team lack a director/director skills, and we are left with an unfocused developer salad

but then would be still be playing DDO?
I don't know if the devs even understand how completely unplayable this game would be without the use of DDO wiki, character builder, loot planner, etc.

They could have made it 1:1 and made the trees more granular, with each past life giving you 1 point. It would have been a better choice.

Or simple 1:3 even. The current system where you get 7 points for doing 36 EPLS is a tad less than 1:5. Will be at 27 EPLs soon, then there will be a valley where I get no points for 9 lives. FTLOG indeed.
