it may be too late for me, as i am definitely done with hc and quite possibly with the game. level 17 fvs entering blockade buster. crash to desktop. come back dead. all that progress lost.
and not because of something i did. but because of some glitch in the system that ssg cant or wont fix.
how many people are you willling to lose over this?

Hard-core is a distraction imo...
A lot of effort for cosmetic apparel.
Look into the mirror and repeat after me...
"Even if the world doesn't know it I am a seggsy beast. I dont need no frilly cloak"
Repeat that 5 times a day, drink 8 cups of water daily and you will feel better in no time

Sorry to hear that, it's very disappointing.
This is one of the reasons I wouldn't touch HC with a 10' pole. The combination of bugs and lag makes it a lottery where a lot of effort can be flushed down the toilet due to no fault of your own. And of course while SSG is very happy to collect any money we spend on HC, they won't lift a finger to assist players who are let down by their product.
Yet another way to squander what little good will the community still has towards them by a company that excels at this.

I am so sorry for you, Hobgoblin. That really sucks. :(
For the first time, I am making a serious effort to reach one or two of the milestones on Hardcore. Even playing quests Normal, then Hard, I have experienced dozens of close calls. If I were playing Elite, my journey would have ended many times over just because of disconnects and lag. For me, Hardcore is like walking across a minefield for a few hours each day with super depressing obituary notices constantly reminding you that the next step may be my last, and I will join the long list of angry and sad people who could not make it. I felt really bad for all the people who lost characters on Christmas day. That must be horrible.
I now have three characters around level 10. I am not even sure there is enough time left to reach the first two Milestones. The process is super time consuming. If I fail, there is no time left to roll a new character and try again. No pressure, though.
Anyway, I am very sad for your loss. For what it is worth, when I return to my normal server and play for an hour or two, it feels like a tremendous relief.

Can you share what builds you're playing for the 3? I almost never see normal or hard lfms...And most quests I see now, one or two people in the group could have easily soloed on Elite.

(1) Paladin 9 (19) Rogue 1, Two Weapon Fighting, Greatsword; This is a fairly strong character but cannot keep up trap skills or meet ability score requirements for feats. She sometimes blows trap boxes on Hard and would fail with traps on Elite.
(2) Wizard 10 (20), Archmage, Eldritch Knight; This character exists to cast protective spells on Character 1.
(3) Rogue 7 (18) Barbarian 2, Inquisitive, Mechanic, Vistani; This character is disappointing.
Characters 1 and 2 run as a team. Character 1 fights. Character 2 casts protective wards.
Character 3 is running in a dedicated group. This is my first Inquisitive and I do not like the play style. Half her shots just disappear. Her defenses are poor.
It only takes one accident to end everything. For me, it is not about the rewards, which I do not like. I am not a good player but the only way to get better at anything is to try.

For character 1, are you in mainly the KOTC tree? Am I understanding that you're 9 paladin and 1 rogue? I don't see how wearing heavy armor with LOH you have a chance of dying on normal quests. Get more points into the defender tree for +prr/mrr +6 con. Are you wearing the max + con + charisma + false life items? I'd suggest you drop trying to do traps as it's very hard without a heavier intel investment.
For char 3, Drop mechanic and vistani. Get blood tribune and rest in inquis. You should be crushing elite mobs with that setup... Yes, your defenses will be poor if you don't invest in them. Rogue is a low hp class, which doesn't help. Aside from blood tribune and run speed, barb has very little in the way of crossbow synergy. A suggestion to help on hardcore would be continue with fighter. Take the armor (prr feats) or continue with cleric/fvs for extra defenses and HP. Wear heavy armor when fighting.
I think doing traps are a trap on hardcore... you will die eventually from them. Here is something to understand about hardcore, especially the 1-16, the game is way way easier due to being +4 level and running on elite...so stop going 100% dps. Aim to have at least 20 hp per level. For the paladin, try this setup, reset enchantments. Put 25 in sacred defender, you'll get hp/prr/con and hp. Your melee damage will suffer for sure but if your dps won't be a match for the true dps builds of hardcore (fvs casters and other casters). I also suggest dropping trapping so you don't stretch yourself thin.

You've basically described the rush people get from playing HC  That is the reason it is so popular because the stakes are high and what you do does matter.
You have a whole month yet to play on HC but the disadvantage you face now is that many people who were going for the 5000 favor are already done which means all those annoying and hard quests we did a few weeks ago in a group of 5 or 6 you'll likely have to do in groups of 2 or 3. That's also a tip I'll have to remember to drop for the next HC season - get as far as you can early on when more people are doing the quests.
As for Hobgoblin, HC is defined by the hundreds of choices you make in a gaming session. Going into Blown to Bits is a risky choice. I assume you DC'd then someone planted a bomb and you exploded upon reconnect? People can set bombs at the start of that quest and blow up anyone standing there as a troll move. I don't know how exactly they fix that in-game. You were likey the victim of a player with malicious intentions. You can't even be sure the crash to desktop was DDO and not your computer or operating system updating or whatever.

Thank you for attempting to offer advice but I am not seeking assistance with my hardcore characters. I provided the information requested out of courtesy.

No worries :) I tried to relay what made HC easier for me in my eyes. Good luck out there and stay safe.

Ahh, gotcha. So you dc'd aboard a ship after you set the timer for the demolition? That's a rough one.
