View Full Version : Help ranged and melees and healers please (let EDF heal/rez at range, heals 4 ranged)

Melees can't heal or raise dead at range. Many ranged build are squeezed out of healing, seemingly a penalty for their "non-EDF advantages". Self healing penalties in reaper really have not helped the game and even seem to be squeezing people out of playing healers lately. Many melees are feeling a bit punished lately especially.

Please let our EDF people heal, restore, cure and raise people at ranged.
Still prohibits offensive ranged spells in EDF. Can prohibit EDF when wielding ranged weapons.

Please give some better healing options for ranged dps'ers.
Ranged dps should have some decent heal bursts, and definitely self heal bursts, just not enough for persistent use. Consider adding ranged power to the Unyielding Sentinel cores to incentivize and sweeten Renewal, especially if (when) you nerf Shiradi.

Please just do away with reaper self healing penalty as it even seems to be just griefing our healers at this point.
Often the best way to improve a design is to subtract something. Alternatively, make all healing easier in reaper.

We don't need to bannish self reliance and light party healing to make healers relevant. Healers are still needed for keeping whole parties and tank up during big encounters. Making ranged so un-self-reliant is weird in difficult raids. Instead of using natural advantage of space, ranged dps seem setup to be pretty bad at self healing, and thus a desire in parties to bunch ranged with melee to help the healers. Very hard to make ranged that can take all that heat and the game play is then about just putting your life in healers hands with decent chance of RNG smackdown rather than play your toon and avoid damage and do real self healing to stay alive. Would be better playstyle for ranged to be able to avoid enough and heal enough for healers to not have to worry so much. Would be better for melees if they could help party without fussing with stances or finding people. We want to make dedicated healing a relevant and sought after role but they won't even bother if its not fun anymore.

P.S. This is coming from the perspective of difficult content, and YMMV.

Edit: Added stipulation that EDF incompatible with ranged weapons as my intent was not to let ranged get EDF - Chacka pointed it out.

I can't count the number of times my DC casting favored soul illusionist who also heals ( including mass heals ) got the stink eye from parties because he's not 100% focused on healing.

Side Note: Reborn with Fire from Primal Avatar has provided me with a strong self-heal in reaper that I didn't have before.

Can totally get behind removing the range penalty for EDF on non offensive spells and scrolls. EDF was sold as a way to help melees, but this massive sting in the tail to healing each other certainly didn't help at all. It was also a real kick in the teeth to melee classes with inbuilt healing like bards and rangers because they lost a capability they should have retained.

The reason for EDF hp bonus is because melee gets more harm than characters who can stay out of melee range from monsters, there is by logic no need for an additional restriction like the touch range for spell casting.
The only reason for any restriction is to prevent casters and ranged builds from getting this hp bonus that is only intended for characters who are forced to fight in melee range and for this reason, there is indeed NO point that heals and raises are only possible within touch range (the only exception might be heals/cures on undead as offensive spells but that's certainly either a tolerable exception and this can also technically solved if this is really that important).

And I would go even further, I think a character who uses 4 combat-style feats to get full EDF hp is already balanced by that because this cripples his ranged abilities enough to outweigh the additional hit points no matter if this build actually fights in melee range or not.

The only restriction I would maintain is the restriction for ranged weapons but even better would be an epic combat stance for offensive casters and ranged combat with their own special bonuses so a caster or ranged weapon build would choose this combat stance because it provides the better bonuses for them.
