I have seen (in the XP summary) that you lose XP (10%, both reaper and normal) when you summon a hireling (at or below level, over level is another issue), but I have heard that it really comes back at the end. My question is do you really lose XP for summoning a hireling, or is it just an artifact of the way things get reported and it makes no difference?

Voodu pulls out his lvl 3 elerie all the time for its dvs and hes never said a thing about hires messing up xp, so i dont think its an issue just a display bug.

you would think it would increase the xp as there are more monsters does it still count to draw more monsters in the mobs as more player join the quest so more to kill more xp to earn?

The 10% exp loss would happen in the past, but it was changed and hireling deaths do not cause XP loss now.

All you have to do is press X, pull one out in quest, and you'll see the XP drop in real time.

Yes, that is the display bug, where the daily playthrough bonus comes on and off all throughout the quest. It is the reason people still wonder today if hirelings lower experience even though they have not done so, even when they die, for many years.
