View Full Version : The Crafting Hall is Irrelevant

It's true the crafting halls in house K and House C are irrelevant. The Cannith crafting Airship amenity killed the crafting halls but there is a way to make them relevant again. Consolidate crafting altars into one/two generalized areas. Cannith and Heroic Shroud can still be a ship amenity and Lshroud should stay as is in the raid itself and leave TF where it is too since that's thematic. However, there are all these other little altars and crafting benches all over. Cannith wilderness and sharn docks for alchemical and raid stuffs, Cauldrons of Sora Katra and Cadance in Lordsmarch plaza and the Hut beyond respectively. theres also the altars in the 12 enclave and the soul forge altar in Hall of Heroes.
So instead of players running all over Eberron just to craft stuff why cant the crafting hall be utilized better and everything that is Crafting be in the crafting? I mean lets be honest all the Gatekeepers were stashed in the HoH until the grove was created. So doing a redesign of the hall of heroes isnt going to be a huge undertaking. there was even a simplistic building made in saltmarsh for the trainers. Anyways, Im sure Lahar is feeling a bit cramped as of late and it would be nice for him to have his own little Niche in the newly redesigned crafting hall and not get rained on all the time. You'll just have to build his section with nonflammable materials.
Heck you could even get rid of the crafting halls and take all the above mentioned stuff and redesign the Hall of Heroes. Besides the soul forge, a few vendors and the reincarnation grove the HoH isnt getting much use because really how many of use go and look at the hardcore leader boards on a daily basis? Most of all that stuff is on the first level so why cant the second lower level be redesigned to accommodate the consolidation of crafting? Pfff might even cut down on Lag.

Agreed. Having 1 place where ALL crafting systems are located would be so helpful.

So, you want to rebuilt New York so that ALL groceries and shops are in 1 place ?
Or so that ALL industries are in 1 place ?
You treat Stormreach as a game - not as a part of a pen of paper role play setting which it actually is.

you're reasoning is flawed. in most cities things are zoned therefore the grocery stores are usually within a mile or two of each other unless you live is some podunk town where you only have wal-mart. Your example of NYC is perfect actually. businesses or industries such as the brooklyn navy yard, Staten island ferry or the intrepid sea, air and space museum that rely on waterfrontage arent going to be located in central park or the garment district. Most of the white collar jobs on Manhattan are in the Financial district whereas a lot of residential areas are is places like Lower east side or Harlem. In Chelsea 4 grocery stores are within about a 1 mile radius. Midtown same deal. so yeah most grocery stores and shops are located in general areas. with of course some exceptions for changes in city zoning. you know because thats like the real world and well, Stormreach is just part of a game.
Here is the empirical proof
Grocery stores on Manhattan Island (https://www.google.com/maps/search/grocery+store+manhattan+island/@40.7438504,-73.9959722,5286m/data=!3m1!1e3)
I dont really care what stormreach in DDO is based on. it actually IS whatever the developers deem it to be. Just the same as stormreach in a pen and paper game would be deemed whatever the DM of the game deems it to be. if the game developers want to make stormreach exactly how Keith Baker designed it then cool, if they add to it or take away from it then cool. Stormreach in DDO is heavily dependent on licensing. so you could argue the Stormreach in DDO isnt even the real Stormreach from pen and paper because there isnt a Molou's distillery or Surrinek riverboats in the game.
Its really much easier to adjust the crafting halls than you think it is. So instead of going to a paint supply store for brushes or a plumbing supply store for a new faucet or tractor supply store for a new belt for your mower and running all over gods green earth you just go to lowes and get it all in the same place. Same concept for crafting.
Take my first example of the crafting hall itself. currently when you enter the hall in the central hall way you have two areas off to each side that are spoke shaped like a bicycle wheel with little alcoves. the code can be modified to instead of being spoke shaped to be say rectangular in shape then the asset codes for each altar, which are already pre-existing, are then inserted to the code of the redesigned crafting hall rooms for positioning. Thematical artwork can be added to each little section that houses an altar or cauldron.
Look at the area in saltmarsh for the trainers. that was built in about two weeks and that was more than likely built from scratch. the code had to be written for the building itself to be an enterable building instead of a blank. then the coding for the interior and code for each NPC. although it is possible that there is static coding for the vendor and trainer NPC's that allows them to be dropped into a place and then just individually named. point is it was created rather quickly. same thing can be done for remade crafting halls.

Teleport to the canith hall not an air ship.
some air ships do not yet have the capability to make a crafting area.
some players do not have access to an airship.
1st year i played i used the house k crafting hall as the 1st hall i crafted in.
until I joined a guild.

I honestly don't know why we need two crafting halls at all and on the airships too. I understand the need for GS crafting because those are locked inside a flag-requiring raid.

Not signed.
That just kills immersion.
It's like saying "Let's put all the quests in 1 giant room."
I don't see how there is a problem now that needs to be fixed.

How about reaver, requires you to go to a zone point, jump in water, swim down, zone into another place, fall down and then you can find an air jet to bring you up to the crafting machine. Admittedly its not in a raid nor flag required area, but its really a lot of effort just to get there.

Actually I just FF to the platform that leads to the crafting area (just did SOS for this life haha I love dragontouched armors). You can also just go around, no need to fly up with a jet.

OK, less 1 step, still very bothersome.
