I didn't want it. I want it less now.

I mean, the odd quest, sure.

Anyway, it isn't going to happen.

Yeah I don’t agree with that article at all

Doubt we will get flying anytime soon but I’d be cool if we did get flying mounts I’d prefer we got mounts that simply hovered over the ground like the flying pets do to flying around like having fly cast on you by the storm reaver anyway

that article cannot apply to ddo, since it already is a "lonely game" per se.
instanced, player caps in quests/explorers, seperated trough loadingscreens...

the only thing flying would introduce is additional lag in the marketplace, where it honestly dont even matter.

Yeah it wasn’t flying that made the game lonely anyway WoW long had systems that were better for soloing

Example collection & kill x mobs quests didn’t work good for groups if even only 2 players grouped up they still had to collect the drops individually and kill twice as many of those mobs only getting worse if your group got bigger

MMOs like WoW were not built for party play in the open world only in dungeons and raids

Flying may have ruined where games force you to run around things that gave it a feeling of being bigger than it was but that’s just poor design defeated by more poor design

Flying already exists in DDO…in the form of airships.

I definitely miss the days before mounts and when most characters had no access to teleports where worlds felt huge because you actually had to cross them on foot. Like anyone I am going to take fastest travel you give to me and so worlds are inevitably going to feel small if you gives us easy travel like mounts and teleports. It's a hard thing to take away because people are used to it and expect it now, but there was something nice about being in a big open world (which DDO obviously never was) that feels large because of the time needed to get across it.

There are few places in DDO where I think flying would be interesting, and all of them are wilderness areas. Sands of Manechtarun would be really cool to fly around with, as would the Storm Horns. However, I really don't think it's needed in DDO.

If someone wants to feel like flying, climb to the top of the Storm Horns with Feather Fall, bounce off the side of the mountain, and go zooming across the map. You can get some neat screenshots this way.

They made it sound like cutting down on travel time was bad, then forgot that most of those OG MMOs had teleports and translocates that took you much greater distances than flying and no one batted an eye.

EverQuest (yeah the OG EQ) did it perfectly, which did not negatively impact the game. Cast levitate and run off the top of a high point in the zone. You were basically running in the air. There were zones like Dreadlands where you could run the entire length of the zone (from dru/wiz port points to karnor's) without touching the ground.

Not needed in DDO as this game is all about instanced play and we already have teleports through NPCs and spells, but it would be cool to have a few quests where flight based combat took place.

Wait, you mean there are other people playing this game?

Beyond the jokes, make the flying mounts minimum level 31, ONLY available via collector's editions expansions, requiring ACTIVE subscription to fly. Solves three different problems with one swat.

The flying quests in DDO are a lot of fun and bring a nice break of pace.
An airship made out of beds... Yes Plz.
Hovering around as a balloon... Yes plz.
Sliding over the ground on a skysled... Yes plz.
Being blown off by Sor'jek... Yes plz.
Falling down a mineshaft in the pitch dark.... Yes plz.
Using air vents to shoot yourself up a ramp... Yes plz.

DDO would be so much more boring without these.

Yeah I don’t agree with that article at all

I read the article and am not sure how anyone can disagree with the article to be honest. The article either quoted and/or provide context around some players that did not like the direction aerial mounts took their MMO of choice. That's just their player experience.

Me personally, I agree that the trend for players is to by pass content for fast gain and reward only to get bored once they achieve the loot or character enhancements they want. I have been playing DDO since prior to its launch in 2006 and have never really took a break for more than 30 days. I still try to run all quests and all optionals as I really enjoy the dungeons/quests.

As long as DDO continues to put out new content the life of the game gets more and more extensions. Kudos to SSG for that as I think their involvement into a better game and keeping it as fresh as possible is admirable.

I am certainly not in favor of aerial mounts in anyway for exactly what some of the opinions in the article exposed. But I already know this before I read the article because its just common sense.

can't happen in ddo, you sometimes can't even climb a ladder safely, or stutter while jumping\propelled upward, let's not even talk about flying.

also, ddo has no landscape areas, only small instances, flying mounts serve no purpose. but "floating mounts", as cosmetic effect, would be for sure top sellers in the store (not in some exp or sorta-exp bundle).

oh, and slow movement and lack of teleportation i think it is a "feature", let's call it just time sink, making you needlessly lose time on purpose and maybe selling you something to make you think you are not losing time anymore...but not really (ddo case, after mounts, no more ravenloft\sharn-like fast travels)
