Is, or was, there a timeline for when the heroic items that are upgradable to Epic (lv20) will be able to be updated to Legendary level?
Such as:
Epic Ring of Spell Storing
Epic Collapsible Short Bow
Is there a thread on this already? If so, would you post a link and I’ll abandon this one.

The last I heard was that sands legendary items would be added around 1-2 months after saltmarsh launch (note that I haven't read a hard commitment anywhere and I don't really follow along in the discord). Note the rest of the legendary items are already out.
I'm eagerly their release myself - I really want the fire crit set for my sorcerer.

If I'm counting properly there's 64ish Sands items, which is a lot of balancing :)
I think I saw a dev comment that it's like releasing a whole expansion worth of items; and many (like RoSS or Torc) have interesting/unique effects that can be hard to balance at endgame. Like Cloak of the Roc, it's a strong clicky at 11 and a decent one at 20, but if the clicky effect remains the same at Legendary it'll be a much less impressive item (bigger bonus and/or longer duration plz). Or LRoSS will be hard to balance just because we all expect it to be at least as good as ERoSS which is already a decent item and having two significantly increases SP availability (like my Barbarian will have 7+ full blue-bar refills per quest once I get both RoSS upgrades).

Out of curiosty, what does your Barbarian spend his SP on? Haven't really played many SP-less toons.

Cocoon mostly, although I took Scion of Mechanus for testing this life (am WF Barb). I've been doing a lot of teaching raids so it's really nice to have a way to heal people (and nice to throw after rezzing). Also testing OS this life so it's nice to be able to top myself off between fights.
For leveling I just twisted Endless Faith and called it a day, but LGS Cha Skills (my Haggle/Intim hat) also gives max SP so if I expect to need heals I'll swap that on and have like 460 SP which is a lot of Cocoons; but I have to keep it equipped if I'm healing a bunch since I only have 1 refill currently.
I also think I could load up on RAmp and Repair spellpower and make Reconstruct viable into mid-skulls which would be pretty nice. It eats SP like nobody's business if you have no native bluebar though.

Don't think lynnabel gave a specific timeframe for when the sands items would get their legendaries. He just said it wouldn't be in the first u50 release, and would be put in later.

Slight necro, do we have news on this?
It's a pain to work on gear tetris with all the new stuff now, only to have to rethink it all when sands items come out...

I've just been collecting mats and half-assing my gear tetris - for exactly that reason. Not saying it's the right methodology, but...

Just want to point out that the Legendary Sands set bonuses are already in the game and can be found on the Legendary Gem of Many Facets. Every time I look at that gem it's basically a giant F.U. reminder that those items aren't in the gam yet lol.
As for balancing these items it's simple. They are most likely just going to scale all the effects up to ML30 and leave the clickies alone. It's really that simple. The devs already know what all the items are going to be, someone just has to sit down and create them. But apparently it's all dev hands on deck for U51, which who knows when that will release, and we'll be lucky if we see these items by Christmas.
My estimation is another U51 preview in the next week or so, with possibly a final preview sometime in the next month. U51 will release early/mid November. Then there will be lots of bugs that need fixing, but Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Years will throw a wrench into any pre-planned development schedules, so we'll get a couple bug patches before 2022. Then maybe, just maybe these sands items will be out by MLK day 2022.
Releasing incomplete and buggy content, then moving on to new content before finishing the previous update and fixing it's bugs is like a landscaping company only mowing half your yard so they can artificially boost the numbers for their yearly report, but they are oblivious to the fact that they have a lot of pi$$ed off customers and everyone's yard looks like sh!t. You're still cutting the same amount of grass no matter how many yards you split it between. However if you actually finished one job before moving on to the next you'd at least have some satisfied customers.
