In light of recent loot changes, gear changes, etc ... Do you just use your main character or couple main ones to farm as you TR ... Or do you create a couple of iconics at different heroic levels to farm certain chains now that there are three tiers of loot upgrades.
Or what other ways do you farm gear.

if your talking end game gear
the answer is to join a raid guild.
Run a R10 ready build.
If that is your thing.

Go to your server's discord channel and join the raiding channels.
These channel raids run at least 4 raids a night; and they called themselves casual.
Most of the raids do not have a high entrance requirement. The most difficulty that these raids run will only be R1.

I do have mules at various levels... Though in reaper, alts without significant investment are often squishy. If your main characters are TRing constantly, it is generally a good idea to keep a character at cap to gather some raid runes and stuff.
Second (and third, fourth,..) accounts are maybe even more important than alts. Though that kinda depends on a person's playstyle and level of social phobia. If you're in a larger guild, I guess it's often easy to recruit guildies for help. If you're alone in your guild, you roll more accounts :)

I usually use alts for farming gear because of the ransack thing...

I search for gear when I need it which isn't often since on the hamster wheel, otherwise I have friends that help me.

I generally keep at least a couple characters at cap to run content for gear. Right now, I generally take my archer (was DWS, now HW) when my caster (who's often TRing) isn't capped.
A big recommendation I have is to have multiple characters that can at least enter raids without being a drain on the party (ideally being geared well enough to actually being useful, where feywild sets come in VERY helpful), since some of the most desirable items for example an archer are raid gear. Beyond that, having 1-2 characters that can run recent content on legendary elite means you can farm out anything relatively easily (if not necessarily quickly, due to ransack).

Why would you leave level-banded Iconics at different points to farm? Level has no effect on drop rates - the only benefit to farming gear at-level is the +1% chance per skull for doing Reaper, but you're not going to be able to get enough skulls to make that worthwhile on a first-life Iconic...at least not, paradoxically, without farming them a LOT of gear :D
Just take a L30 alt - preferably one with high runspeed - and blitz quests on HE if there's gear in it you need
The only other shenanigans that might be helpful is having a second box to reshare the quest, so you can repeat it without having to go back to the NPC every time.
