View Full Version : Screenshots not saving for anyone else?

Seems to have started about a week ago. I hit the screenshot button, and no screenshot is saved. The usual folder for screenshots is C:\Users\[USERNAME]\Documents\Dungeons and Dragons Online and this folder still contains all my old screenshots. But trying to take a new screenshot doesn't put a screenshot there. I tried reassigning the screenshot keybinding to a different key, no change. I thought maybe the directory changed so I searched my entire C:/ drive for new jpeg files, and found no recent screenshots.

I can still hit the PrintScreen key to take a screenshot in the normal windows way, but then I have to paste it into Paint or something and save the file, which isn't what I want to do in the middle of the game.

Using Ctrl-P works for me.

Did some further testing. Logged into the game on a different PC (my laptop) and found that the problem persisted. Neither PrtScn not ctrl+P worked - screenshots still not saving. So I uninstalled and reinstalled the game from my laptop, and tried again. Still not saving screenshots. Tried PrtScn, Ctrl+, or reassigning the screenshot key to F8. None worked.

Help?

try temp renaming the ddo.keymap file, and see if it works with a fresh game generated one?

Try this, I was surprised to see it had changed and I was distressed on not being able to find it either.

When you open the game, before you log in.
Click the down arrow top right corner.
You will see the following:

Options...
Explore Screen Shots folder

Click on the screen shots folder one and you should see the shots are there now.

If someone can explain a way I can change where the default is there is another location I would like to send them to.

CTRL + P and Prt Scrn no longer work on this machine and DDO. I just tested.

I was unable to take a screenie using either method and my folder doesn't show a screenie since July on this machine.

Something is up.

as of update 50:

Launcher: The 64-bit game client is now the default choice for new installs. Updated the wording on the legacy client to indicate that it is no longer supported.

that might mean that your game executable changed from dndclient.exe to dndclient64.exe

you might have to check to see that the 64-bit ddo client program is being allowed through your security/firewall - if not, the permissions allowed might prevent you from using the ddo client to take screenshots.

I am running windows 8 so the way that you let a program through your firewall will probably be different. for me, it is control panel / System and Security / Windows Fireall / Allow an app through Windows Firewall /
normally, though, if you have your Windows Firewall (or other virus/system security app running), once you launch ddo, a security pop-up will come up asking if you want to give clearance/permission for that app.

Someone had this issue last year, but with the 64-bit client becoming the default for ddo, maybe this is your issue?

The folder has been changed and once you see my previous post in this thread you will find where you screenshots are going.

I went through months of trying to figure out why it was not working.
Until I discovered what I described previously.

Click on the down arrow on teh client screen before you actually log into the game.
One of the things it says this:

Explore Screen Shots folder

Click it and see all the screenshots you have been trying to take.

This method brings me to C:\Users\[USERNAME]\Documents\Dungeons and Dragons Online, which is the same folder that screensots have always saved to. All my old screenshots are still there, but new ones aren't.

When I reinstalled the client, it started using the 64bit version. (It didn't ask me, it just did so on its own. No big deal.) The post you linked to is kind of vague, he doesn't say what his security software is or how he bypassed it, only that it was preventing writing to the folder in question. I don't think this is a firewall issue per se, as firewalls only disallow incoming/outgoing network traffic as far as I understand. Just to be thorough, I checked my windows firewall settings and confirmed that it was set to allow dndclient and dndclient64 through. So it's definitely not the firewall.

No, I followed your advice and it took me to same folder that doesn't show a screenie since July. Then I searched the entire machine and no new screenshots as well.

Sounds like either Control+P got remapped in your UI or you lost write permissions for the screenshots folder in My Documents when the client switched to 64 bit.

Is anyone having troubles, happen to be using another overlay on your system? Radeon Relive for example, or XBox Gamebar, etc?

I seem to have fixed it. The problem was my antivirus. I'm using Avast. When I turned all shields off and restarted the client, screenshots started working again. Turned them back on, and screenshots broke again. I added DNDLauncher.exe as an "allowed app" under Blocked & Allowed Apps. Also added the entire C:\Program Files (x86)\StandingStoneGames\Dungeons & Dragons Online\* folder as an exception. Not sure which fixed it or if it took both, because I'm not sure which part of Avast is getting in the way here. I also have always kept Avast on silent mode, for what it's worth, though I doubt that matters.

Woot woot!

That worked, I had to whitelist the 64 bit .exe
