Is this happening with Saltmarsh? Are we pretending it wasn't spoiled? Might as well give us some info, could help looking at current issues from a different perspective ;)

I sincerely hope the don't screw over old players who have tons of shards, seals, and scrolls from the old system. Any fix should offer a trade in system (3 to 1) similar to desert scrolls. There are a handful of items I tried for years to get the shard, seal, scroll, and item for, but the item became obsolete before collecting the final piece to make it.
It was a very frustrating system, but provided a needed "grind endgame" for years.
Update the gear, maybe have it drop directly in the quests to phase out the old system, and provide a legacy system vendor so old farts can finally have a use for all the ingredients that have been collecting dust.

severelin was baffled this was a question in the most recent Q&A video, and said he thought it was official, that there will be an overhaul of the S/S/S system with saltmarch.
i am waiting for some infos since then. please communicate what you have in mind way before the release!
the obvious main issue with those old items:
they're very hard to get. by todays standards its garbage gear, with just very few exceptions! (most of the stuff is as powerful as level 10 equipment nowadays)
its locked behind a tedious grind, and worse: behind raid timers!
this means:
there needs to be an update to the epic items themselves, to be worth the grind again. or their accessability needs to be amp'ed up by ALOT.
i am quoting myself from another thread here: https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/505545-Just-end-the-S-S-S?p=6405700&viewfull=1#post6405700
negatives on live servers:
- high ammount of items (hence high ammount of useless shard/seal drops)
- very rare droprate
- majority of items locked behind raid timers and 2-stage-raids
ideas how to fix that (any one of those would fix this issue pretty much):
shards/seals from raids:
- make 20th lists contain ALL available shards (and seals maybe) from that pack (make shards appear on 20th list for VoN too)
- lower 20th reward list to show every 10 or 5 completions instead (AdQ)
- have every non20th- reward lists always contain 2-3 random shards
- make every chest eligible to drop shards/seals drop a random shard/seal for every player with a 100% drop chance for a guranteed drop per run (half if there are 2 chests that can drop. 33% drop rate for 3 chests and so on. so that you have a (numerical) guranteed drop of 1 seal or 1 shard per run)
- implement a raid rune system to trade for shards/seals/items
shards/seals in general:
- have a turn in for shards/seals just the way the sands scrolls turn in works (fastest way, yet most disrespectful to people who kept farming for it)
- have fully upgraded items drop on 20th lists instead (would need a combination with another solution to use leftover shards/seals)
- let us buy seals/shards for epic or raid tokens or threads of fate
basically you don't have to rework the system, you just have to adjust droprates.
it has been super grindy, people haven't even completed their desired items years later. and 95% of the items you can still make are garbage in modern terms.
a +6 ability and a colorless augmentslot on an item is nowhere near epic, rather pathetic
sidenote:
the stone of change holds a massive ammount of S/S/S reciepes, hindering that system to be updated, too.

Counterpoint - if the new system isn't introducing any additional grind for the item, then there's really no "lost work" they need to compensate for.
You grinded all the stuff because you want the item. If you can get the item itself for equal or less work as the final item you were missing - which is likely - then you still have what you were going for, for the "price" you were willing to pay.
Honestly just deleting all those items and getting the space back is its own reward lol
If they do introduce a whole new hamster wheel, though, then yeah its unfair to reset everyone's progress. But I doubt they will, given how uncompetitive most of those items are now.

The main issue is that those items are far too weak.
It's ok to have very rare items in the game, they just gotta be worth the grind. I do assume they are going to make them easier to get, just don't invalidate all the existing ingredients/items in the process.
An option to convert old stuff has to be there, all those slots occupied for years and years awaiting an update...

well said. i do not own a eSoS, since i lack the shard. and i do not want to see everyone having an eSoS on patchday!
pay respect to the work people put in there to get something rare, just don't make it dirt cheap.
never liked it, when other games had an update and something passionate players put alot of work into got trashed without reason.
the super rare stuff still should be rare and take some effort to collect. but not the "i did 600+ times Von6 over 10 years and didn't get what i wanted" rare

I say still have an upgrade mechanism. Heck call it an upgrade augment if you want, don't really care. Just replace the S/S/S with a single item to upgrade to the epic and probably leave the drop rates as they are or reduce slightly. So it drops a RoSS Augment to upgrade the RoSS to an eRoSS, etc.
Then all use to turn in any combination of S/S/S at say a10-1 or 15-1 ratio for a specific "augment" or whatever the upgrade McGuffin is. Then the time put in those runs acquiring them isn't lost AND we can choose what we want to upgrade for loot. Maybe keep the S/S/S tradeins within the same loot though, no sands Scrolls being used for House P stuff, etc.
As one who never did get an eSoS but has an eRoSS I would be fine with that.
Also upgrade the loot while you are in there so it's actually worth having / using. Heck make some of it Level 24 ish loot and let us use something other than Ravenloft and Sharn level 15 gear in those slots.

I look forward to see what they are proposing for the pass on S/S/S crafting.
I do hope they have some option to use/spend the collected S/S/S's in some way. Prefer towards getting the upgrade player wants, but for a minimum of some benefit to the player. "Just trash it" would seem more like a kick in the rear for a system that has been around for as long as this one has been around.
Yes, gaining the inventory spots back is big, but only if you have something else to use it for otherwise it is just freeing up 100s of spaces for collectables.

I expect everything low level to be screwed again in favour for end game.

And for those who still haven't seen an eSoS shard for all the years they've been looking?
If this were a PvP game, sure I could see the unfairness of the implementation, but since it's a cooperative game the only loss is ego and only for those who measure their self-worth based on superiority of a game character.
(Not much different than football season, tbh)
I slapped a cosmetic over my SoS to stand out, anyway.
