View Full Version : BUG: Ik'Thanor Signet Ring suppresses and negates Spellsinger Song of Arcane Might

There's a fairly long history of bugs related to stacking of effects that increase caster level and Spellsinger's Song of Arcane Might. Here's my recent observation of the new Ik'thanor's Signet Ring.

For bards, most of their spells benefit neither from Arcane nor Divine augmentation.
I have tried this on a bard 12 and I only see improved caster level on cure spells. "Arcane" bard spells (for example, sonic blast, blur, haste, rage, shout, ...) do not receive any benefit, and neither does Soundburst (divine spell?).

Technically, the wording on the arcane augmentation enchantment says "sorcerer and wizard spells", so it's quite unclear how this should really behave.

What worse, when you equip this item and sing Song of the Arcane Might (as part of Bardic Inspiration), the usual effect icon of the Song is suppressed... and so is the effect. De facto, if you wear the item, it decreases your caster level by 1.

Ideally, the effects should stack. If, for whichever reason, arcane augmentation cannot work with bard spells, at the very least, the item enchantment should not suppress the class enhancement.

I noticed a similar stacking issue in the past with Illusory Death, and other problems have been reported. Can this be solved in some consistent manner? I have suggested some ideas here:

Yes, and it's behavior has been, "spells on Wiz/Sorc list, regardless of the actual class". So divines benefited from higher spell pen on Energy Drain, for example, while wearing Arcane Augmentation.

I'm guessing the Divine might be implemented similarly, which could be why your Bard Cure spell benefits. No idea why Soundburst woulnd't also benefit, too, though.

Even with the few Divine Augmentation items added, there is still vastly more Arcane Augmentation items in the game, benefiting Wiz/Sorc the most over all other (including other Arcane) caster classes. They should just turn both Arcane Augmentation and Divine Augmentation into "Spell Augmentation" that works on everything and is available fairly to all classes, instead of preferentially only to Wiz/Sorc.

When the divine augmentation items got added, they worked for almost nothing in the game; I think FvS SLAs was one of the few things that worked correctly with them. There was a huge thread about it and I think Lynnabel (if I recall correctly) went thru and fixed a bunch of stuff on the backend so divine spells were actually gaining the extra caster levels. They probably need to do the same with bard spells, unless this is intended behavior for said items for bard spells which seems unlikely, and more likely that the spells just aren't categorized correctly on the backend to work with the items correctly.

I noticed this today as well with the Illusory Death effect. The Ik'Thanor Ring suppresses the additional level from the Mistfallen Orb (and assuming other sources of Illusory Death), and even if worn alone, does not work on... well any of the wizard spells I've used. U49.2

Got it yesterday (even rerolled for it ffs), and the ring is VERY broken.

I play a water cleric, and it seems that neither arcane nor divine augmentation affects the SLAs in any way. One would think Cone of Cold would definitely be affected, as it's a typical wiz / sor spell. (Note: before anyone goes into CL / MCL nonsense, I have "Draconic Knowledge" from dragonborn, which gives +1 CL and +2 MCL. CoC casts at level 16 for me per combat log, on a level 15 character, so other stuff affects the SLA. The ring should have brought it up to CL17 but didn't.)

So waste of shards and a gear slot.
