Ok, I am only a level 5 right now, slowly working on favor ( not VIP ). I decided to run Borderlands quests on hard then elite. Ran north from the keep up to the bee-keeper to get to the mission area. I jumped off the cliff to get to the lower level that has the minotaur quest. Fell nice and slow ( like normal with the FF item on ). ran to the quest entrance and noticed that I was almost dead. I had to check the combat log to see what hit me. Turns out I took 86 HP of falling damage!

Isn't feather fall supposed to stop falling damage? Has anyone else had this happen? I would test it, but not on Hardcore, and not sure if it is only a hardcore issue.

I would of bug reported, but a friend invited me to play Rocket League so I quit out and switched. ( may still bug report if needed )

Thanks

86 HP is roughly the maximum falling damage you can take from any height assuming you have at least 1 point in Tumble (not tested without Tumble skill - I jump off the guild ship to the Market fairly regularly).

Falling damage can happen if you get stuck in the environment and then unstuck - not always, but it does happen. In this case, your toon will do the falling animation dance, and it has to be for a bit. Putting on FF before you get unstuck seems to prevent the falling damage.

Another thing that can happen is a toon can bounce. While 86 HP is roughly the maximum damage you can take, this doesn't seem to prevent you from bouncing and taking that same falling damage two or three times.

I mention all these not because they respond directly to your post, but show that I've been paying attention to falling damage. To that point, I've never seen falling damage while Feather Fall was on. I know someone who fell to their death thinking they had FF on in Misery's Peak (failed to click the clicky Feather Cloak, I guess).

Another related point: I rarely rely on FF except when I need to make a long-range jump. I just make sure I have the HP and healing to easily survive the fall (and possible bounce): Much quicker than FF. Early levels, as you've indicated, are obviously different.
