Why doesn't The Bitterstar break Piercing DR? It is a morningstar and in D&D, they break bludgeoning and piercing DR.

BTW, the Lamplighter (and other morningstars) break bludgeoning and piercing DR.

Check more carefully, most morning stars (https://ddowiki.com/page/Category:Morningstars)in ddo do no break piercing DR. It's only a half dozen of the named ones that are special.

Then those that don't are Dev oversights and should be corrected.

Agreed! I could never understand why the signature pointy bits were ignored, and also why you would have a completely redundant weapon type (for a heavy mace, no less).

Why
Because quality control and attention to detail are the company's strongest points

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Fair point! I'm down for fixes.
Gotta ask though, are you actually planning on using The Bitterstar as a melee weapon? I've never even heard of a morningstar build, and I'm pretty involved in the weird end of DDO character builds. With a bit of research I can only find one thread on the vault about a morningstar build, and half the thread is arguments that light hammer or heavy mace are better options.

Aasimar scourge with knight's training would do very well using those 2 morningstars.

Why not?
Pretty sure you could make a semi-cool Aasimar Scourge-based Fire and Ice-themed flavor build with the Lamplighter and Bitterstar.
Use your imagination. Not all builds have to be super optimized R10-capable builds.

If you read my comment, I didn't say morningstar builds are non-viable. I said I've never even heard of one - and that my research only found one build thread on the vault.
I recently made a character build for max self-regeneration, and non-Artificer build for energy blasts "like Megaman". I'm currently on a THF Bard life myself! I never said anything about R10-capable builds.
I asked if you were going to use The Bitterstar as a melee weapon in a build. It's a yes or no question, and if your best answer is "well it's possible to use on a not-super-gimpy flavor build" I'm going to assume the answer is no. Are you actually planning to run a life as that semi-cool GoT cosplay build? If so, go for it! I'd be happy to write a build up for you too lol, should you be interested.

I am quite sure that Arkat is quite capable of making his own build

Well if they read that part of my comment maybe they'll read the other part of the comment lol.
Someone leveled 1-20 only with daily dice a few years back lol, viability isn't my point.

I'm considering it. I just need to think the build (including the equipment I can realistically get) through first.
My biggest hesitation is the Scourge I played previously with the two maces from the Disciples of Rage update. It was ok, but not all that much fun.
If I try it again, but with the two new raid morningstars, I'd need to do something different. It would also be nice if the Bitterstar broke all the DR types it is supposed to. Is breaking Pierce DR all that important? No, not really, but screwing up little details like that tends to bother me more than it should. It's a personal problem I have that I have a tough time dealing with sometimes.

That's fair. Most TWF Scourge builds are like the mace build, but definitely seem to look more fun than they are :p
I agree it would be nice if Bitterstar bypassed DR types atypical to DDO, but more similar to PnP.
Well, there you go! The first person who's seriously considering a morningstar build lol.

I'm looking at melee artificer and considered the morningstar in question on a pure build.
If all of Knights Training, Scourge, and Battle Engineer threat range+multiplier work correctly the build might work better than expected.

It probably doesn’t break pierce DR because it wasn’t intended to? Just because it happens in pen and paper doesn’t make it so for DDO. D&D =/= DDO. This has been reiterated countless times by the devs. Not all named morningstars (https://ddowiki.com/page/Category:Morningstars) break bludgeoning and piercing DR. A sleepy count showed only six in ~50 do. And unless the wiki is incorrect (which does happen) it doesn’t appear as though morningstars as a weapon type (https://ddowiki.com/page/Morningstar) are intended to break pierce DR. You’re describing the exceptions.
Then those that don't are Dev oversights and should be corrected.
How do you know this to be true?
