Alright, I know this is a very likely topic to be brought up with the return of this event, but someone had to do it. I ran the traveler the other day, got a major aura (second-to-most powerful) and as a reward I got a sucky random generated light armor of hide +11 that was like minimum level 17. The rewards for this event are even more obsolete than the end rewards in, say, waterworks. There is that tiny chance you will get a reward that is pretty nice, like a cake or a pot, but the chances of that are little to none, with the only way to raise chances is to purchase a blessing for 200 DDOpoints.
What I am trying to say is, either increase the chances for those nicer rewards, or completely revamp the rewards system, because a reward system that wasn't seen as good 7 years ago definitely will not be seen as good now. Perhaps have rewards be certain augments based on how good you did, or minor/lesser pots, and the blessing could grant some greater/major pots. Right now, the festival is barely even worth the 2 minutes it takes to run and collect eggs for the rewards it gives. Many see it now as just a way to get rid of the tokens that have been rotting in their inventories.

Yes, we know the Festival of the Traveler rewards are outdated. Hopefully someday we'll get them updated. This return of the event is more about bringing it back for the first time in a long time over bringing an up-to-date event to the game world.

problem is the blessing... give so many for free or lower the cost to something more reasonable. 10tp?

It was bad idea to have event where participating costs DDO points. No wonder it was abandonned with that close-to-zero interest.

How about DeGenev brother's buff is actually a traveler's blessing ? And they can give a traveler token if "performed well"? Would fix two events into useful one ;)

but someone had to do it

Everyone knows that. Your "but someone had to do it" is rather an testament of your self-entitlement than of discussing a real problem.

Greed now is so strong that people don't see items as a source of Plat income anymore !

This reason makes no sense at all.
I don't really care one way or the other but that's not how nostalgia works.
"Leveling sigils are back! Scour the Harbor looking for 'em! Totally worthless now, but remember those things?"

The only logical reason I can think of is that someone up high said to have an event despite the lag issues,
and the Devs in the trenches choose this one because it checks off the box without crippling the servers.

If that's the case then I say "Good Job!" :)
Better to have a event-in-name-only then to crash the game just to satisfy a to-do list.

If they had put them on sale at 100 I would have bought 3 to go with 3 free egghunts. At 200 TP though the benefit to reward is not there. It is better to spend TP directly on what you actually want from the hunt than to go random and get stuff you don't need even if that stuff sells for more than 200 TP in the store. 10 TP may be a little too cheap and SSG likely would have sold a ton of them but seen a reduction in other sales over the coming months.

The big point to make is that the event is pointless without the blessing. The random loot roll can be obtained just as easy from other places in the game without buying eggs. This event has only really been interesting when free blessings were provided because that was the only way to get something interesting. I would have given a BtC blessing to each character so that everyone could try the hunt on every alt instead of just running with the character with the best jump and speed.

Now I know I'm ignorant about this kind of stuff, but I still feel an urge that I can't withhold to ask about the logic in this.. How does it make more sense to spend time/resources to keep old stuff that doesn't benefit the community alive then spending (even if we are talking minutes) that time on fixing and/or updating stuff that will then have a positive contribution to the community ?

That being said, thanks for keeping winter, Halloween and crystal cove relevant

First, it was very nice to bring this event back for the people who enjoy it, even if their number is small.

Second, I was one of the people who trashed this event in the past and suggested not bothering to turn it on. That was selfish of me.

Third, while the Festival of the Traveler would greatly benefit from improvements to both game play and rewards, I would rather see that developer time devoted to other events such as building more ice slides for winter.

In other words, keep the Festival of the Traveler around for nostalgia and occasional use, but I vote to put developer time into other events with much greater potential for excitement and fun.

There is a chance the Festival of the Traveler would get renovated someday; I've heard thoughts about how it could better integrate into the current game that seem pretty doable.

If the secret desire of some developer is to upgrade the Festival of the Traveler, great. I hope he or she achieves an amazing success. If the developers want to upgrade the Festival of the Traveler because they think a bunch of players really want it, I still vote to put the effort somewhere else.

With 6 accounts, 18 free Tokens, and the DDO Wiki, I was able to figure out the path to the highest reward tier by my third run. The Festival of the Traveler is slightly more difficult than the new ice slide. However, in my opinion, the other major events offer far more opportunity for expansion and fun.

Crystal Cove: This remains my favorite event and a new map (or two!) would make it even more fun. The event offers solid rewards and I thank Lynnabel, once again, for leaving the old rewards in place.

Mimic Hunt: I enjoy the Mimics. This event could expand into something really amazing with more random craziness.

Night Revels: The large number of maps and excellent rewards continue to make this a very good event. I personally prefer the new graveyard. Every new map and reward makes this event more fun.

Winter Festivals: Festivult, Midwinter Festival, Risia Ice Games, and Snowpeaks offer a diverse array of activities and rewards. With more and more challenging ice slides, Snowpeaks could evolve into something very fun.

Of all those events, The Festival of the Traveler is most like Midwinter Festival and Snowpeaks. All three events involve navigating a course to collect objects. Snowpeaks, as the most modern event, obviously offered the best rewards.

Anyway, I vote for putting event construction time into a new Crystal Cove map or Snowpeaks slide or Night Revels dungeon or something completely new.

Finally, some years ago, I wrote many long forum posts pleading with the developers to update events and event awards. I believe I stated that a good event requires good new rewards every time it comes around. Since I wrote those posts we continue to see new maps, new rewards, and even new activities on a regular basis. Thank you for all the hard work to keep events interesting and rewarding.

Love Night Revels

If I were to wish for a change to that, it would be
something minor.

During the event, I think it would be fun if non-combat zombies and Skellys (purely cosmetic)
would wander around in the public city areas.

it would set the mood :-)

That's an interesting idea. I think I would rather see cosmetic spirits, say specters and wraiths rather than zombies and skeletons. I would also love to see a few decorative pumpkins and maybe a scarecrow or two in other public zones. For instance, the Marketplace tent could host a little seasonal decoration of jack-o-lanterns, and maybe a cart, wagon or ship in the harbor could be seen delivering pumpkins to Stormreach. A scarecrow, and some pumpkins outside the door to the Market in the harbor would be a nice touch too.

Then they could do something similar during the winter events with the snowmen, and a few snowbanks, strategically placed for best decorative effect. It would be most spectacular if they would ice-over any small ponds in public zones such as by the main gate in Jorasco, by the Pit in House Deneith, all-around the main structure in Phiarlan. The shallower the water the more likely and swifter it is to freeze.

Maybe during Crystal Cove, we might see parrots throughout the city? Maybe some pirates wandering about that aren't usually there?
