The other day on hardcore someone posted their combat log info after they died...to the force traps in The Pit. These traps do about 40 at the very maximum to first lifers, yet this person was hit for over 200 and died instantly. Don't think a critical hit from a very weak trap like that could go that high. Is there something else going on here that we don't know about?

From what I've understood about those traps in particular is that the closer to the source you are, the more damage you take.
I usually tell parties I'm in to hug the walls as that reduced the damage.

I could be wrong and am happy to see what others have to say.

took 187 and 200 force dmg (i died of course..) from last quest of the greymoon chain. personally ive never seen that much dmg from this trap on season 2-3. maybe there is something off with force traps. i remember sitting in the force traps of the pit in season 3, they barely hit me for 20-30 when i didnt save...

I've had that happen in the pit a time or two through the years as well. What I was told at the time is there's a tiny chance you get whacked for way more than the typical small amount of damage. Riffolk could be right that it's related to proximity, but my past experience does make me a little nervous running the pit on hcl

Sorry but who here is complaining? We are simply making statements and/or asking questions about deaths we have experienced/witnessed, not complaining about how/why they happened.

You are. In a long list of threads just to whine about the next "hard" thing that's totally WAI but you think shouldn't be.

Extra funny but also sad (for you) since Pit force traps have always worked this way.

Uh, if you read what I initially stated, I did not say I died from this. I said someone I know died from it. I am simply asking if it is normal for this to happen, as I have run pit at least 70 times and have not once died from force traps. I haven't even seen hirelings die from it. Not complaining, just asking.

Just ran pit on hardcore, reaper 1 and got smacked by one of the force traps for around 200 hp. Fortunately I have almost 400 hp so could shrug it off. It has happened to me at least 3 times I can recall. I think it's just bad luck but maybe I'm doing something to trigger it? I've never seen anyone else get nuked like that.

Permanent acid rain count as WAI? Found out that was a thing for the first time yesterday in Chronoscope, my poor bard.
