The Vendor in the Hall of Heroes is MIA. Her chest is there, but no vendor. That means we can't get our Mimic Repellant :(

If this is working as intended, then they need to bring the other events in to hcl. The rules specifically state no events on the hcl server.

I really like the mimics. I enjoyed HC3 but I was a little disappointed because of the extra lives as it was my first HC and it didn't feel hardcore to me. This feels hardcore to me and I love it.

Mimics don't spawn if the chest is opened by a Lvl 1 or Lvl 2 character, only Lvl 3+. But that doesn't mean that a starting alt can't be standing innocently nearby.

What it does mean is that new characters get 2 levels of opening chests without incident, and then as soon as they take 3 start getting ambushed by these brutal acid-DoT abominations. Ouch. So stay alert!


And before anyone gets excited about turn-ins on the HC server - Hard Core doesn't do "events" - there are mimics, but this isn't a "Mimic Hunt" event, so no event trader. Nothing new there.


And for those who might whine that this "isn't fair" - it's perfectly "fair", because everyone suffers the same. It isn't nice, it isn't expected, it isn't easy, it isn't forgiving - but this is Hard Core, you survive or you don't. (Personally, I think it's a great bar-raiser, and a good thing.)


The silver lining is that we're still collecting tokens, and these can be transferred to a regular server when this season is over, for the next time a regular Mimic Hunt rolls around. (Hey, I didn't say it balanced out.)

Bleh, who cares? It's a new twist. Business as usual is boring!

Some things we've learned. If someone level 1-2 opens or loots a chest, it's "safe" and won't turn into a mimic. However, if a level 3 or higher loots that same chest, it has a chance of being a mimic. Once a level 3 or higher loots a chest, the chest will no longer be a mimic. For low-level parties, we had our level 1s & 2s loot the chest first, then stand back well out of the way. Our level 3 tank then stepped in and opened the chest with the rest of the party on defensive standby. After we figured this tactic out, we had no deaths from mimics. We do pick and choose the chests we loot, but I think once we get used to opening chests this way, we'll no longer skip chests. And people will wonder what the heck we're doing on regular servers.

Confirmed: You can "Abandon" the Mimic quest in your Quest Journal, but that doesn't stop mimics from spawning for you. If you do Abandon the quest, it will eventually be readministered to your toon when you walk through some triggering area(s).

It is nice to see Misadventure not ruling the realm. So far HC season 4 does not disappoint. I hope the season continues this way. It is a nice change from past seasons.
