Changestone Bait and Switch

I'm pretty frustrated right now. I saved up my demigod runes from the Druid and Demigod raid for some time, happily go to buy a Changestone and find out the hard way that you don't get what's in the window, but some random version of it. To my shock, it gave me something for ranged characters on my twf toon instead. What the heck? Why in the world would anyone program loot that you're buying - buying to get the exact item for your build - to be random?!? What a dumb, unfun system.

Don't worry, you can always just farm a greater feywild chest. Should only take a year or so of running it every time it's off timer to get *a* feytwisted raid item.

This is what happens when the devs don't play their own game. If they were really players no way would they build in the ridiculous grind.

The whole concept of this item is an absolute fail. To know about the turn-in change you have to go to 3rd party sites and/or stalk the forum. There was talk about changing the tooltip to make it known ingame. Eta on that?

Kinda curious why they even tried something like this, but I assume because somebody at some meeting incorrectly said that it would be fun.

I’m pretty sure they made the rune purchase random to keep people from playing effects bingo thru the rune trade-in window. But, because that would invariably anger players that didn’t realize that before completely wasting 1250 runes, they should’ve scrapped the entire idea.

I’m starting to think that the player experience isn’t taken into account on a lot of decisions being made.

Here's the list of suggestions I've seen that could improve Changestone:


Lower price (so it's cheaper to roll)
Buy the displayed item (kinda unfair, as you can then roll a perfect one)
Allow you to reroll one slot for X runes
Allow you to reroll all but one slot for X runes
Use threads to reroll entire item (suggestion was 50)
Add a Feywild set bonus (either randomly or by crafting)
Have Changestone come in blank and be upgraded (also kinda unfair as you get a perfect one)

Almost literally any of those would be better than current, although I certainly favor some over others. I think allowing some sort of reroll for runes/threads seems most reasonable.

It needs to be cheaper or drop more often with the number of combinations available to make it worth while


That or make the changestone changeable crafting the effects instead of loot lottery

I don't have too much of an issue with a bit of random variation on items that are dropped in-quest, but it's a ridiculous concept for items that you're turning in runes for. You should absolutely be able to choose your variant of item from the turn-in menu, or at the very least be given the exact item shown in the barter window.

Unfortunately I highly doubt the game has the infrastructure in place to facilitate that exact mechanic, and I also doubt they'll ever change it. Unfortunately you're going to have to a) forget about this item and hope that you get it in the raid by random chance, or b) continue to turn in massive amounts of runes and pray to the RNG gods that you're smiled upon. I'm going with the first option.

Weird. I thought you could open and close the chest and get a different one each time.

Perhaps I was conflating what happened with what was going on in the Barter Box with the end chest.
