View Full Version : Spoken dialogue cuts out

Reposting here since I didn't get any responses in the technical help forum:
My spoken DM audio dialogue will often cut out abruptly. At first I thought it was only happening after I leave an area, but casting a spell seems to cause it too, and sometimes it happens for no apparent reason at all. .
I'm not sure that this is working as intended, since some of the dialogue occurs during fights, so I think the game would expect you to be casting spells or attacking without the audio dialogue ending. All of the dialogue still shows up as text in my chat channel.
Has anyone else noticed this or have a fix?

I don't have a fix, but this has happened to me several times as well. I think we need to document which quests under certain circumstances where this is taking place. Maybe it is only certain DM audio and not others? If we can replicate it, we can submit a proper bug report.

It happens to me almost constantly. Would probably be easier to list times when it works correctly. Some times the cutoff makes sense—when a condition triggers the next voice dialogue. Other times it seems like there is no way to hear the full dialogue. Older quests like in the harbor seem better, but I’ll need to observe this more to tell.

OK, here's a fresh example:
Bookbinder rescue in harbor
(Dungeon Master): You hear struggling from the inside, hesitant footsteps, and the metallic hiss of a drawn blade. Hurry!
Except that part gets cut off: (Dungeon Master): You hear*****
because this immediately starts playing:
(Dungeon Master): This plucky elderly woman looks like she's giving the Sharn Syndicate a hard time. She must be the matriarch of the Binder family.
I see why it happens. A new dialog is triggered right after the first (really no way for me to stop that, you open the door, the DM says what's in there, but there is also a woman in there, and the DM would rather talk about that.
Question is, was this always the behavior? I don't think so. And it's also happening in cases where it doesn't have to, like when the DM is describing an area and also the monster inside it. The first dialog should finish before the next starts. Maybe there was a lag fix that lessened the number of spoken dialogs or gave priority rules? Dev comment requested.

Lately the lords of dust Gnomen speech at the end is cutting out early, same spot every time.

Good to know it’s happening in several places.
LOL, I’d be happy if SOME of those dialogues cut out early. Looking at you, Gnomon, Elimster, and Spinner of Shadows. I just don’t want to miss out on any NEW dialogue, and some of the old ones are still enjoyable, especially if the quest itself is repetitive.

This has happened a couple of times in the Feywild chain too. It might be less frequent there, but I can now say that this does not only happen in older content.

This has been going on for a few years now, at least. I haven't had it triggered from spell casting, so perhaps this is a new issue or an expansion of the current problem.
I did a bug report years back, and they actually responded, telling me they were aware of the problem. It probably doesn't hurt to bring it back up with hopes that they might do something to fix it.

Thanks for the info! I wonder if the previous lag work changed some dialogue stop/start rules.
