Had a level 9 swf (pure) fighter yesterday before the patch, leveled it up to 12 today and took offhand versatility. So far my observations is that it appears to do nothing.
To expand on this:
I took the feat at level 10 as a fighter bonus feat, I already had swf and iswf feats from previous levels. I was using longsword + orb as my preferred weapon style. Before/after taking level 10 my damage was 1.75[1d8]+44 according to the character sheet. When I removed the orb from my offhand; the damage on the character sheet did not change. My stat to damage is 42 (+16), so I would have expected an extra +4 damage from using only a longsword.
So I take this to the ship cannon for dps testing; and results were rather inconclusive. After a small sample size of approximately 50 attacks with and without the orb I got:
With orb: 57-72 damage per hit.
Without orb: 58-75 damage per hit.
(only counting non critical hits, not using any boosts or anything that might throw off calculations).
So, yes the without orb did appear to average slightly higher in this small sample size test; but this is nowhere near the +4 damage (before melee power) that I should be getting from the feat with nothing in the offhand.
So I mostly used sword + orb in the next future quests.
The feat says that Runearms and Orbs now grant: when you vorpal strike, your next spell automatically crits. This has an internal cooldown of 20 seconds (lasts for 20 seconds). While the only spell-like thing my fighter has is aasimar healing hands, I can't really test this out properly (does healing hands count as a spell that can auto-crit?) But what I can say is that there is no indicator to show off that you've made a vorpal hit and your next spell will critical while single weapon fighting with an orb.
Which means that both effects of this feat appear to be not working in my experience.
