Question about Snowpeaks champions

If you kill one is a chest guaranteed? Ran gianthold walk ups yesterday on heroic elite on a lvl 15 toon. Killed around 6 of these champs and no chests spawned. No biggie just curious how it works. Also, I presume you want to use ice skates when doing the challenge right? Thank you

No, a chest is not guaranteed, nor its contents.
Can't speak of the ice skates as I have yet to get a key from nearly 20 chests.

Seems you'll need to let the mob figure out if it is a snowpeaks mob (turns white) or a regular champ (has a crown), takes ~1-2 seconds?

Any palette swapped to white snowpeaks champ should drop a chest.

Snowpeak champs are not standard champs. Standard champs have a blue halo instead of a gold halo. They are not snowpeak champs, they won't drop snowpeak chests.

The snowpeak specific champs are visually different, they not only have the blue halo, they also have an iced over visual, and their champion name type is specifically champions of the snowpeaks.

Every special specific snowpeak champ I've killed has dropped a snowpeak chest.

I was never any good at the old ice challenges, but I cannot see skates being any advantage on the new run. Pushing back slows you down and you can easily get every coin every time. Miss one? Jump off the ramp. You are returned to the beginning to start anew. There is no time limit.

What you get in the chest is random, though.

(Also note that the chest drops where the snowchamp dies, so that can be... awkward... to recover sometimes. :rolleyes: )

If they were snowflake champs, you most likely killed them before they turned white. Sometimes it takes a bit after they spawn for them to fully become one of these champs per se, and if they are killed before they are white, they will not drop a chest.

I think there is some confusion. People read "chest" and assumed that the Champion had to be orange-named to drop a Frozen chest. Hence the discussions I saw regarding Haunted Halls, and how to get orange-named to spawn repeatedly.

Well, you don't need orange-named. I just ran Ritual Sacrifice on elite. We got six or seven Frozen chests, and every one came from a regular gnoll champion, not an orange-named. Come to think of it, I don't believe Ritual Sacrifice even has orange-named -- Killerog and Crean are both red-named.

I have yet to see more than 1 Snow Champ spawn in any quest. Have I just been unlucky (go figure) and you can spawn multiple Snows in a quest?


(As an aside unrelated to my question, I have seen occasional Snow coins pop in plain ol' everyday chests. So there's that.)

I've still only seen 0-1 Snowy champs in any quests. One amusing/irritating run of Irestone, I found my one Snowy champ...

I've obtained up to 5 chests in one room. That particular room has never had less than 1 chest.

I've run R1s for mine; in those quests I'll get 1-2 Snowpeakers.
I haven't seen any pattern to what's in the chests; 1 bronze or 2 gold and a key... it's random, as far as I've seen.
They seem a little sturdier than the normal champs- I've had one among a cluster of five and all but the snowpeaker died in the first volley- but evey SPC drops a chest where they died.

WRT to event quest: it seems that the faster I go, the more higher value coins will appear on the downslope. I tried to grab what I could but didn't go backwards for missed coins and I had a fair mix.
Second run I grabbed every coin I could, going back upslope for missed ones and didn't see a single gold coin
Third run I went for faster time (nothing excessive) and got more gold and silver as a result.

But it's possible that the coins gen randomly and it just happened to support the theory I was testing by coincidence. I'll try more today.

As I said, we got at least 6 Snow Champs in Ritual Sacrifice. But it is a very long quest.
