Looks like there is a new Dungeons & Dragons Movie in the works for 2022. Chris Pine has been chosen to star in the film.

Many of the past Dungeons and Dragons movies haven't lived up to the hype, at least for me, but they filled the desire to see D&D in a film. I've always wished one could match the quality of Peter Jacksons "Lord of the Rings" series. The original "Dragonlance" trilogy would be great to see.

I like the teasing between Star Trek Online and Neverwinter, although a bit bummed there hasn't been more references to DDO. Those likely should come soon as it's some free marketing for DDO.

Perhaps this will gather some audience for DDO and bring in new recruits.

Even the last IMDB update was 18 months ago.

Would be awesome, but past experiences keep me from setting my expectations too high. I hope I'm wrong.

It looks like that one will have a different setup than previous ones. It's a project from the same guys that did "Game Night", which was a comedy thriller envolving people who liked to play table top games. So the story will very likely be told from the players perspective, with D&D sprinkled throughout, althought I guess it would be interesting if it had a mix of real life and a fantasy setting from the characters' perspectives as well. I doubt it will be something like LoTR at all.

In either case, it will very possibly have a positive effect on D&D properties as far as mindshare goes, I believe. Still a bit too far away, though. DDO will have to endure through 2021 first.
