Here I was thinking that the augment system was an update that, for once, was about making game play better and not about forcing people to the ddo store.
Silly me. I should have known there had to be a catch.
You can no longer overwrite old augments with new ones. You HAVE to remove the old augment with a toolkit.
And, yeah toolkits can be found, but for the most part will have to be purchased if you use many of them.
So if you have some garbage augment, you must use a toolkit to save the old item, even if you don't want it.
It is all in the documentation. So I cant say they didn't warn me. But I can say it didn't really occur to me what the ramifications were.
They did give us 5 free toolkits. In my opinion, they should have given us 100.
(And why does it still warn us you might destroy the item there if it wont overwrite it any more?)

You know there are dirt cheap legacy unslotters at vendors, right? They only work on items using the old system. It sounds like this is what you're looking for.

No, we are talking about overwriting slotted augments within the new augment system.
update: Idk what OP is talking about. Just checked a lootgen orb with a red slot. put a bunch of useless rubies in there, they seem to overwrite slotted ones, just as we had it before.
update: Acttually you may be right, OP might be talking about legacy augments. Idk anymore.

I buy an unslotter for a copper, remove the old augment, relog then slot a new augment or feed the item to a sentient jewel.

Yes, the OP is talking about the old legacy augments. They need to catch up.

Just buy a few hundred legacy unslotters from the vendors in the crafting halls.
Will probably cost you less than 1 platinum.
Unslot old (legacy) augment. Log and log back in.
Voila! Old slot upgraded to new version and old augment possibly improved.
