Doubleshot or CotQ?

I have a ranged character who I am about to eTR. What is the consensus for picking Doubleshot or Colors of the Queen? I found some old posts saying how CotQ was broken by bequeathing positive buffs to mobs, so that concerns me. But supposedly, that has been fixed though; would like to hear others' thoughts though.

CotQ for low levels, doubleshot for epics

For ranged I'd probably always take the doubleshot, it much more reliable and consistent damage instead of hoping for a proc.

I think colors can still rarely give you bad results (negative dmg vs undead, fire vs iron golem ect), but it's overall more good than bad, getting a good colors proc in heroics can delete a whole pack of mobs.


If you're an inquisitive or repeater user who gets reduced benefit from doubleshot that might push you further towards colors though.

I like CotQ, but mostly because the occasional proc of stuff like sunburst melting entire groups is awesome; or barrels of exploding ham is just giggle worthy. Would I do more consistent damage with double shot? Probably, but that no where near as fun.

If you plan on "always" being ranged, Doubleshot for sure. If you plan on doing non-ranged lives, CotQ is a better DPS option (as Doubleshot will be useless for those).

If you're going to get 6+ Primal PL's between now and when you stop being ranged, the above concerns are obviously irrelevant.

CofQ only gets better as your melee or ranged attack speed increases, and I've never had it proc anything but sheer bad news for mobs. Another thing is that it stacks with Double Rainbow, giving you TWO 7% chances to proc per hit. Long story short, with 3 CotQ past lives and using Double Rainbow, odds are high that there won't be a single 10 second period going by without a proc to one, the other, or even better, both!

Occasionally one runs into a situation where a monster is very resistant to your normal attacks.
In such a case, an explosive option such as Vorpal Weapon or Colors of the Queen is very welcome.

As far as Primal Epic Past Lives are concerned, my favorite is Fast Healing x3, even though I earned CotQ x3 first.
If you do a lot of end game R7 farming on a Tank with 5k hit points, Fast Healing might seem a poorer option, but for leveling up R1 Heroic and Epic or Elite Raiding, it can be nice.
