View Full Version : main hand weapon for end game Acid nuker?

Any thoughts on what the main hand weapon should be for an Acid nuker?

Off-hand has a lot of great options. Dust, Ash, Healing amp/Temp HP, elemental resist. Lots of good things to swap in and out. But I'm looking for what to have in my main hand as an Acid nuker since I'll obviously want that to be one weapon with sentient toys to pump up DC and DPS. No really good options stand out to me in the way that Wild Flame and Wild Frost do for Fire/Cold nukers.

In offhand I just use Morninglord scepter or giant platter, I haven't seen a weapon that covers acid. There is the burnscar sash, + stone forged gauntlet from Housekeeping, and there are some boots and a staff combined with cold power in the early Sharn quests.

I hope you have some other solution though, because I have an acid/conjuration archmage which can web the hell out of anything, and then can't kill it. Even with the best spell power of any of my casters, acid spells land with an impotent squelp. Then a fire caster comes by and blows away both the mobs and the web with a meteor swarm or delayed blast fireball, and moves on.

The acid spells are just terrible.

Honestly, I'm actually looking to make an Acid Alchemist nuker, but I came here too because I don't see anything useful to put in the main hand.

Looking at Acid specifically because Acid Draconic uses Conjuration and everything else in Alchemist uses Conjuration or Transmutation, so I can stick to those two instead of trying to pump up Evocation as as third school for the Draconic abilities.

Looks like I have my answer. New Cove acid weapon. +1 Quality conjugation and some insightful corrosion. It isn’t great but when the rest of the numbers come from other gear anyway, might as well take the small bonus.

"Quality conjugation"? Nice! Conjugation is/was/will be confusing to me. Glad there is an option to help with that.

But seriously, wouldn't you already have insightful spell focus mastery and insightful corrosion from other places at end game? For example, the intelligence spell caster minor artifact (zarashk ward?) already has quality spell focus +2, and I don't think the Cove weapon would stack with that. The stone-forged gloves seem like they are a "must-have" hands item for an acid nuker and they already have better insightful corrosion. (But maybe you have another option in mind for the gloves slot...I have not tried to completely gear out an acid nuker alchemist, so not sure how the tetris works.)

What about the sickle of vile attunement? It would give transmutation +9 and you probably will not have that anywhere else. Even an acid nuker alchemist still might want to frog something occasionally, so the extra +2 DC (over a +7 spell focus item) could come in handy.
