View Full Version : How To Best Determine Endgame Raid Non-Caster Weapon Properties

Lokeal_The_Flame

(Too much work to do in a single sitting, will fill this out little by little!)

I plan to do the following tomorrow: Shuriken, Warhammer, Light Hammer, Heavy Pick, and Sickle

Covered So Far: Bastard Sword, Club, Dagger, Great Sword, Dwarven Waraxe, Quarterstaff

It really should be about filling in the gaps when what you wish to achieve is to excite players about the loot, or else you are going to have to make the loot more powerful than is advisable!

The more holes in the available non-caster weapons selections, the more powerful the weapon design is going to be, I will use clubs as an example!

For each weapon type, I will create an example weapon that is able to fill in for all that is missing for each weapon type's selection! This means that if based on the existing weapons in the game, the resulting weapon would need to look like it would be the last weapon of that type ever made for the level range without there necessarily needing to ever be any new weapons of that type introduced.

Request a weapon type and I will run it through the same assessment under the same Standards as applied to the Bastard Sword section I intend to complete!

Much of this is copy/paste so there are likely to be errors!

I'd wish to expand on this as time goes on, feedback wanted!

Only weapons that are sentient compatible mainhand weapons with a +15 enhancement bonus will be acknowledged!

Only raids of level 30 and up will be assessed!

Weapon Types:

Dagger:

UE: Morninglord's Dagger

RM: None Yet Existing

Notes: Like for most weapons, the missing link in terms of viability is for when fighting rust monsters and oozes with an additional bit where forgewraiths deserve some attention as an enemy. Daggers are often used in assassinations and even then vorpal effects are reliably available for this weapon type. Perhaps this needs some work but so far, it seems to fill much of the missing spots.

Ka-niffy Dagger
Minimum Level: 29

+15 enhancement bonus
Frosty Adhesion: This weapon is made of Risian permafrost and deals ice damage to enemies and as it hits them it will occasionally tear off large pieces of flesh as such freezes to the blade, enemies vulnerable to bleeding will take additional damage over time for the next 45 seconds. Additionally, if a monster tries to eat this weapon, they will be frozen in a solid block of ice for 30 seconds. Forgewraiths struck with this will occasionally lose 5% of their health and spawn a lesser forgewraith that can be as easily dispatched as a frog can be, these forgewraiths can not be reabsorbed as they have been made unviable. Risian Permafrost is indestructible and can not be destroyed.
Fetters of Unreality: This weapon is cruel and deadly, and leaves behind wounds that affect both the body and the soul. This weapon has a chance to inflict multiple stacks of Vulnerable.
Vulnerable: You take 1% more damage for 3 seconds. This effect stacks up to 20 times, and loses one stack on expiration.
Keen V
Revenge For Broken Weapons: Passive: +0.5[W].
On a Vorpal Strike: If your target is an Ooze or a Rust monster it is instantly slain if not an orange, purple, or red named enemy, if the Rust Monster Or Ooze Monster is a purple red or orange name, it receives 10d120 untyped damage, additionally slaying a rust monster, an ooze, or a Forge-wraith has a chance to randomly repair any equipment held by you or a party member. Since the existence of forgewraiths has lead to the destruction of many weapons, this effect also has a 25% chance to disrupt forgewraiths on vorpal if they are not a red, orange, or purple named enemy, this effect jumps to 75% chance if this is your Deity's favored weapon or you are sneaking undetected by the forgewraith.

Ultra-Morphic Crystaline Matrix: This weapon is made of an Ultra-Morphic Crystaline Matrix and is able to bypass all alignment, metallic, and weapon type (Slash, pierce, bludgeon) damage reductions, additionally this weapon is able to pierce dimensions and this can bypass any miss chance. If this weapon is given sentience, it can even bypass enemy dodge chance by 7% per 10K sentient experience on this weapon and can bypass enemy fortification by 5% per 10k sentient experience.
Fetters of Unreality: This weapon is cruel and deadly, and leaves behind wounds that affect both the body and the soul. This weapon has a chance to inflict multiple stacks of Vulnerable.

Branch Of Calamity Quarterstaff
Minimum Level: 29

Legendary Trap The Soul: Passive: +0.5[W].
On a Vorpal Strike: If your target has fewer than 5000 hit points, it is instantly slain. If your target has above 5000 hit points, it takes 500 damage. If An enemy is slain by this effect, it is then trapped into a soul gem.
Impact V
Legendary Arcane Warrior's Resilience After receiving damage from an elemental damage type, you will receive 80% less damage from that damage type for the next 45 seconds. Meanwhile, if the damage you receive is acid type damage you will deal 10D20 extra bludgeoning damage for this duration, if the damage received is cold or electrical damage you will deal 10D20 additional fire damage, if the damage received is fire damage you will deal 10D20 extra ice damage, if the damage received is negative energy based you will deal 10D20 extra light damage for this duration, if the damage is sonic damage you will deal 10D20 extra untyped damage for this duration. This damage scales 200% with Melee power!
Primal Combination Bonus: While this weapon is equipped, if Shillelagh is enchanted upon it and you use the Avatar of Nature greater form, forms 1-3 will last an additional 9 seconds, form 4 will last an additional 13 seconds and upon the effect wearing off the area around you will be covered in thorns as if the Spike Growth spell was cast leaving you with the Rejuvenation Cocoon effect automatically cast on you along side a six second Unbreakable Forcefield effect.

Notes: This one was a tad difficult to figure out and may need some changes, but based on available greatswords and the existing raid bosses that a lack of suitable greatswords exist for combatting, it would seem that this would be a very good fit for filling in what few gaps exist. As it is, greatswords are already profoundly well off and thus this could be the last Greatsword the game needs. But the point is not to suggest but to bring attention what isn't covered. Greatswords are a very popular weapon, as such this greatsword has to be good enough to quell the demand of more greatswords.

Lawful Submission: Lawful Evil enemies struck by this weapon receive 10D120 light damage on vorpal, additionally if the enemy struck is evil and survives a critical hit there is a 25% chance they will fight for you for the next minute if they fail a will save of 100, when this one minute ends they are then slain with no saves. Red, purple, and orange named enemies are immune to the submission effect but not the light damage if both lawful and evil.

These are not about flavor, but need...... so no room for my cursespewing or vampirism under these rules lol.

The list is incomplete for any type that is not listed as complete.

So far the list only has Clubs, Bastard Swords, Dwarven Waraxes, Greatswords, Daggers, and Quarterstaffs completed, please do read more thoroughly in the future.

The point of the list is to illustrate what a non-caster weapon would need to look like in this point of time if it were decided that such would be the final weapon of said type and thus illustrate needs determined by the holes in our legendary named equipment options.

I will likely only be handling six of these per day!

One thing to take into account is that they froze mob CR at 60-63 for years, but buffed item hardness every patch regardless of items staying near level 29 for years, which means that you don't need an ooze/rust monster weapon if you use recent weapons, since mobs aren't high enough CR to damage recent weapon hardness.

oh, i read it. from the first to the last line. i'm still not sure why i read it, and with that kind of attitude i doubt i'll be likely to read any updates you may include in the future. it's a lot of information to digest all at once, and it doesn't really seem to be accurate from a players perspective. the first thing i noticed was that most of the weapons i actually use aren't listed, and the the weapons which are listed don't seem particularly well suited for the thing you list them as being well suited for. maybe after its finished it will make more sense to me. but for the most part, raid weapons have a damage die far enough ahead of the... i guess they are place holders? such that i wouldn't consider swapping to a morninglords even againt undead, for example.

Like it said, not all weapon listings are complete, most of it only includes a cut and paste base that has not been edited to include more information.

The base only includes Syranian, Nightmothers, and Morninglord as there is a +15 named weapon of each type for those.

point of the list is to illustrate what a non-caster weapon would need

I guess this indirectly addresses my assumption that every non-caster despised weapon swapping as much as I. Do you really think it's reasonable for melee and ranged to obtain 3~5 weapons? That somewhat implies you're also expecting them to do 6~10 100k sentient jewels .. one for the 20->29 trip and another for 29+ on each weapon.

These days I get one 20, one 29, and one crafted metaline+everbright+flamegtongue+evil+chaos(augs) and then just suffer with non-prociency no-profile issues as a result of being forced to swap. Typically that breaker weapon will be L7~15, too, because I'm too tired of the idiotic DR breaking system to CC another for epics.

Really, the only thing needed for non-casters is metalline, aligned, and everbright via the ritual of change altar. Saves a bit of time all over .. reading speculation list, writing it, farming multiple sets, jeweling them, etc.. etc..
