There are now commemorative plaques in the Hall of Heroes listing the Top 100 leaderboards for Hardcore Seasons One and Two.

What about the issues with party/guild chat being broken on Thelanis it's been really hard to communicate in game with most messages not getting though it's been broken for weeks.

The issue unfortunately is "most" folks aren't having this issue, but those of us who are are being impacted pretty significantly. Has proven elusive to correct so far. We do have folks working on it, and hopefully we'll have better news soon.

If this helps at all, I was having the issue constantly on Thelanis and when I switched servers to Khyber I have not had it since.

Bank filter? Thought that was an easy fix...

I know this one is fixing bugs, but... would it have killed you to leave the free quests in place for an extra 3 days and just had the one multi-hour downtime this week?

I am impacted with the issues on Thelanis on top of having a bugged out character that I'm still waiting for support on.
Both of my home servers got impacted this summer and it makes me question why I even have VIP at this moment.
I appreciate that yalls are looking into the chat issues but it's been rough when some of my friends don't do discord.

So. . . four hours of downtime (again), but for the HCL and Steam. Not for any actual fixes to the ever-growing number of problems the game is suffering. Not even to start up an event like CC.

Wow.

So everyone loses 4 more hours of play to allow for this insignificant update which affects, what, 0.001% of players?

Really? It couldn't want till you fix something significant .. and I won't even ask how your 'QA' department failed to see the Steam problem before they signed it off.

I've talked with many people in game about this issue, and from my discussions everyone is getting this, but they don't get it every time. I've been getting this issue on and off since the data center outage, but it's not continual - it happens some times and not others.

4 hour downtime for an update before a holiday weekend on a significantly unstable game, what could go wrong?

I've been soloing a lot (because I play during work hours - DON'T JUDGE ME! :P ) so it didn't really matter, but I have been periodically losing my connection to the chat server on Argonnessen. Thought that might be worth mentioning in case it's more than just Thelanis

Is there any risk of there being more up time than downtime? I am in Australia on Khyber. I work during the day. When I have available time at night to play, guess what servers are down for scheduled maintenance, or a hot fix, or an update, or maintenance has gone longer than expected. I am a VIP subscriber, have been since the game release back in 2006. Why do I get to play less than my US colleagues. If I am not playing due to my own reasons, that's on me, but when its because of the servers being down more times than up, what they hell am I paying for? I am basically paying you for the privilege of not playing. When are you going to get your act together and present a reliable system that doesn't require excessive maintenance and excessive downtime.

@Seldarin: I feel your pain, we as a cloud software company have a few systems so that the "joy" is not everytime for the same batch of users.

1) We roll out our updates so that every group of users has the new update first every 2 years or so. 95% can enjoy it 1 week later.
This way, when there is a critical bug that got through QA, it is fixed when those 95% get their update.

2) If we updated in the morning last time, next time it will be in the afternoon, then in the evening. So the downtime is the same, but its for a different set of users, it feels like 1/3.

My 2 cents on that thought of course.

Further info on the chat issues, different servers.

I've seen the "Your connection to chat server has been lost" message several times on the Hardcore server. Usually either upon logging in or joining a party (it's a different message when joining a party - could not join chat server, or something like). It usually resolves on it's own, and when it doesn't, logging out and back in again has been fairly consistent about fixing it. Mostly I don't worry about it because our group is on discord, although it does mean we can't like items to each other in party chat. I don't think I have ever heard of it happening to every member of our group at once, but when my husband and I are playing (same router, different computers) it doesn't always happen to us together. Sometimes it'll hit one and not the other.

I've never seen the party chat issue self-correct in game, only the login broad connection to chat server has been lost.

I get the there is no perfect time of day to bring the game down, but why do it on a weekend unless for an emergency?

Aus/NZ Friday night raids on Thelanis impacted yet agian. :(

This doesn't seem like an emergency, so why can't the downtime wait until Monday or brought forward to a Thursday? Is there some reason you feel the need to do this stuff on your Friday mornings?

Plan better. Put your customers first. This is really poor thinking.

I do appreciate the fixes, regardless of down time. It makes sense to trade a few hours of playing to come back to a better game, and I just wanted to say thank you for the work you guys are doing to resolve issues in-game.

Who decides "Most" folk ? Honestly this is one of the biggest copouts I have seen in DDO since they blamed the lag on TWF and nerfed it followed by blaming peoples rigs. Its more than just a few, its pretty much everyone and the fact developers are throwing their hands up is disheartening to say the least.

Can you explain what happens if you mid TR when SSG applies an update (Started a TR last night, planned to login and finish this morning).

Do I just have to log into the character again, log out, then log in using the Reincarnate button?

Update:

OK, I see that the Reincarnate button is greyed out at first login. Second login (after a client restart) looks good.

"Most" means "more than half" by every definition I've ever heard of. Given that SSG runs the servers, which presumably log errors (like being unable to connect to chat), they are the most qualified out of anyone to know what "most players" means, and anyone else's opinions are just speculation.

Whether SSG is being truthful or not is another question entirely, both Turbine and SSG have/had a reputation for being economical with the truth.

Hi Spikkel,

I understand that there isn't a perfect system, and I don't expect folks to work late at night to accommodate sets of users. But its the same batch of users that are impacted every single time. If the servers are down from 9.00am to 1.00pm, a lot of folks would be at work, but not here in Aus, because that's our evening time. Whilst I don't expect others to work late to accommodate me, why am I paying a VIP subscription the same as every other VIP, but some VIP's get more game availability than I do? Hell, people who live in a certain part of the world get more uptime than me as F2P users. Is that right? I personally don't think so. Yes I have the choice of not paying a VIP subscription, granted. But surely there can be a rolling scheduled so that everyone gets impacted equally. I know it will never happen and that I am just a bank account to the game owners, but doesn't change the fact that the same people get smacked every single time and after a few years it has worn well past thin.

I know there are limitations based on geography, but those limitations don't seem to exist when it comes to billing me every 6 months.

Oh well, back to the grindstone :)
