Hi all,

Me and my friends have been doing R6 (sometimes down to R4) comfortably through heroics but now in epic reaper 4 I am being obliterated (I am the tank). We did Borderlands after some learning curve, but in Kind of a big deal and Another man's treasure, monsters hit me like a truck and our alchy healer cannot keep up. I am concerned also that he cannot play his main role that is DPS.

Is it really such a big jump from heroic reaper to epic reaper as we feel it is?

Thanks

Yes, it is a big jump and some quests are harder than others (most of vets usually avoid certain quests like Another man's treasure).

But, people who rely on the best twink gear for lvl21, lvl25 and 28/29 (with raid stuff), who also use the best ED available and correct twist options, have at least 21 reaper points in Grim tree and about 12 in DPS can handle even R6 even though it would slow down any typical party.

Most vets usually just blast thru R4 in epics till they reach lvl29 for latest named and raid gear before doing lvl30+ quests on higher skulls for RXP.

Since I don't know what your tank build is or what your friends builds are I would recommend doing older conter like LoD chain, ES chains 1-3, Sentinels, Druid Curse, Highroad, etc older stuff, if its stil harder - drop 1 or 2 skulls.

For newer content like Borderlands you really want to be lvl24/25 at least before touching it. Just check the quests base level on normal and +4. Your XP and RXP will not be affected because the bravery bonus in Epics is +4 (in Heroics its +2).

Yes its a big jump so it is normal to drop the skull level once you hit epics, however, the damage scaling in some dungeons is just wrong. In some of the low epic quests from the WPM pack the damage is similar to Legendary Ravenloft. Its almost as if it was intended to be a legendary pack then got changed at the last minute. Borderlands is also on the harder end (certainly in terms of DCs if not incoming damage) so if you managed that you should find most epics comfortable.

Thanks both for super useful tips and hints.

One of our three group members (inquisitive) is a vet with all ED complete, but no epic past lifes (I think), while the alchy and myself are running our second life and we are starting on EDs. We all three currently stand at 13-14 reaper points. I would say that we are as good geared as possible in heroics, but are lacking raid gear.

Another aspect I´d like to ask you about s a build change I recently went thtrough in order to gain DPS and aggro sacrificing mitigation. It was starting to be a serious issue my lack of ability to hold aggro from both Inquis and Alchy, so I did a lesser TR and went from mace & shield to SWF with Thunderstrike & Stygian Wrath, and thought that thanks to the orb I could cast more often with maximize / empower thus helping my DPS / threat (we´ll see).

The thing is, lowering my mitigation in such a way has made it impossible to tank epic R4 and above? With your feedback about Borderlands and WPM 21 level quests, I think not, but anyway. To beat final fight of Another man´s treasure we had to tune it down to R2. It hurts to remember the blows :p

I attach two screenshots about my numbers back at level 17 and right now at level 21. Regarding tomes, I have DEX+2, CON+4 and INT+8. Thanks again!

I dont run tanks often so I can only give generic advice. Theres 2 types of tanks in DDO:

Intimitanks: These do almost no dps and hold aggro by spamming intimidate on cooldown
Hate Tanks: These hold aggro by increasing their threat against enemies

So because of your very low charisma and talking about dps I am going to assume you are trying to be a hate tank

Dedicated hate tanks should hardly ever sacrifice mitigation for dps you need to instead increase your threat multipliers:

look for incite items at 23 you will be able to get a big upgrade here from Catacombs
consider switching from Dreadkeeper to Guardian of the Gates set (this will give you 100% increase to threat 75% from set bonus 25% incite from helm)
The biggest source of threat is stances so I see you are in Stalwart already which is good hopefully you have taken the threat increasing enhancement upgrade
The other one you cant really get round is tanks have to unlock unyielding sentinel. Tier 1 has an ability to increase your threat by 450% so when levelling off destinies you can twist it but you kinda just need to grind to get to US asap.
