Turn off effects option not working?

Hello, hopefully someone can clarify. Whenever I check the combat log, all the useful bits of data are crowded out by the spam of the effects notifications; stuff like multiple effects for speed that do not stack, enhancement modifiers, etc:

(Effects): ---__________________________________


I have checked the option to turn off all combat feedback for effects, but I still get them crowding out the window. Is it not working correctly or am I mistaking what it actually does?

You right clicked the combat chat tab and changed the incoming section to NOT have effects listed?

Well there's my newbie ignorance showing through again, I'd no idea you could even right click the tabs and select incoming messages in the first place. Thanks Mindos, though I still don't quite understand what the other option in the UI menu does then.
