Hello all

I want try my first thrower build, I understand their underwhelming until 20+ so i will adapt the build until 20

The three builds in question are:

12 Alch / 6 Fight / 2 Rog

12 Alch / 6 Rngr / 2 Rog

12 Alch / 6 Bard / 2 Arti

I plan to cap VKF, on all build and each seems to have its benefits but so far Alch / Fight / Rog is giving me the best numbers on the character generator, not sure if going bard for squashy adds that much more dps.

Will update thread ASAP and post the build as soon as I can , in the mean time, any advice ?

Disclaimer: I haven't bought Alchemist yet so I'm just theorycrafting here.

The big advantage to Swashbuckler is its critical threat bonuses are frontloaded at level 3, whereas Alchemist / Vile Chemist doesn't get its crit range bonus until level 12 (Fatal Poison) and its crit multiplier is level 18 core. That would certainly help make heroic leveling more bearable than a pure-ish Alchemist IMO. The biggest downside is Swashbuckling restricts you to light armor. OTOH tier-4 SB is not that great for a thrower build IMO and I presume you're going for tier-5 VC or VKF. So bard 4-6 isn't adding much to your DPS.

I saw someone propose Alchemist 16 / bard 3 / rogue 1 for a thrower build: rogue splash for trap skills (Evasion comes from Liquid Luck at Alchemist 12); bard 3 for Swashbuckling + tier-3 SB (Dashing Scoundrel or Arcane Marauder); Alchemist 16 for, well, everything else. :) You can either take Battalion Brew (INT to hit and damage with Simple weapons) or use Harper tree. Vile Chemist 12 lets you use INT instead of DEX to determine your Doubleshot bonus from Simple Thrown Expertise; so max INT plus enough DEX for ranged feat pre-reqs.

Any update on what you found? Looking to put something together myself surrounding Alch or Rog based mixed with swash.

Thanks!

When the alchemist first came out I did a throw build I think it was 2 rogue 3bard 15 alchemist. Went completely in based it was a blast. Look at swashbuckler you can get a good amount of double shot out of it. I remember having 94 standing double shot at 20 before tring it. And of course using vkf

Alch suffers a little bit as far as throwers go because its primary damage addition scales poorly by comparison. Sneak Attack dice scale far better into endgame than imbues do, and the goodies that Orchidium gives are not worth the damage tradeoff, so Rogue remains the largest part of "meta" throwers.

The split considered optimal currently is 11/6/3, with 11 rogue for the most sneak attack dice, 6 ranger for Sniper Shot and some other goodies, and usually 3 bard for swashbuckler. If we replace rogue with alchemist, we run into an issue: the main draw of alchemist is at the level 12 mark, meaning that either ranger or bard becomes far less useful to us. Since Vistani comes with crit modifications built in, we can take the minor hit and lose swashbuckler, leaving 18 levels spoken for and two available for customization. And as much as I would love making the last two artificer so I could dust off Toven's Hammer again, two rogue is probably better (and there's a build made by Zeratide over on Ghallanda that has that exact split).

That's how I'd make an alchemist thrower these days. I'd follow the build I mentioned above but swap rogue for artificer because I have pet items I wanna use and I'm okay taking the minor DPS hit.
