View Full Version : Server lag kills 5 lvl 30.
Yesterday a group of 6 lvl 30 players had a lag spike in Cogs that killed 3 of them in EE. Today the same happened in my group Sharn Blown deadline and we did it only on EH. Game froze no spells where landing and the HP slowly went down for several players. After 2 had died the server recovered again and I could run away and recall out of the quest. 2 players who had disconected survived but one had 150 HP left from over 1500.
So almost halv the lvl 30 on the server have been wiped out. Do you plan to compensate the players that lost their lvl 30 in any way? This is complete ********. Investing 100 hours so you see your toon die to lag.

Were you in HC? If so, you'll find little sympathy from me. You know this game is laggy so you did it at your own risk.
If you were on the live servers, who cares? Just try the quests again.
And yes, lag sucks. Get over it.

I always thought lag is the only real challenge in DDO that's why they make so little to fix it
Also imo there should be the same compensations due to lag in HCL than in live servers, aka none

Sorry, but...

this.
Also im 99% sure ssg got no tools to track when server lag occurs, so as long as you were not recording or streaming, there's no reason for them to believe someone died cause of lag spike.

Sorry to hear this.
The audacity from SSG to go live with so much lag and no server improvement for hardcore is 1 of many reasons I don't participate in hardcore this and most probably the upcoming leagues.
I recommend to do the same.
I don't spend money on bad quality.
But Arkat is right. Everyone should know that the lag situation is probably worse on hardcore than lives server. You knew this could happen. And you know, too that SSG will give no 2nd thought about your loss.
Nevertheless I can feel you.
Cheers,
Titus

Honestly, your response is uncalled for.
Your post has one purpose and that is to insult a community member.
I personally believe you should be banned from the forums for such a cruel, belittling and inflammatory post.
How about taking your attitude and directing it properly to the game which is broken.

People whining about dying to lag on hardcore.... well... hmpf.
The post you responded to had more than one purpose... reminding everyone that lag death on hardcore is "fair game"... for example.
Everyone knows that dying on hardcore by any means whatsoever is death. Lag is included in that.
Coming on the forums and whining about how unfair it is to die on hardcore is a waste of bandwidth, no?

Lag does suck. However, every one of us playing HCL goes in knowing the Lag Monster can pop up at any time. And lag death is still death.
Those of us who were logged in when the messages popped up across the world paid our heartfelt respects to the lost souls, but that's about the extent of it.

Belittling and insulting community members because of a problem with the product is uncalled for.
The mere fact that we are in an abusive relationship with this game and a lot of you put up with it is a big problem.
I refuse to remain in an abusive relationship so I deleted my game and ended my subscription.
If enough of us correctly focus our anger at the company rather than each other maybe we wouldn't even be talking about this.

Noone focussed anger at anyone.
Just commented on someone complaining about something we all know happens, and where the company said they would do nothing about it.
Asking about compensation, for a death where they have already said: no compensation.
That sounded just like crying and raging.
If everyone cancels their subs and stops paying then the game goes completely away.

But still hanging around in the forums.... sounds a bit like remaining in the relationship to me....

Hmmm...I think it's fair to ask if you've gotten out of an abusive relationship with the game, why haven't you gotten out of the relationship with SSG entirely by leaving their forums?
I'm not suggesting you should leave, I'm asking you to rationalize the seeming cognitive dissonance between your action of uninstalling the game and your continued interaction here on a forum of a game you no longer play.

That's the thing about "abusive relationships".... you cant leave them so easily. They continue to dominate your life....
or something.

Your compensation was already distributed to each and every player in the payment of 100 hours of fun and enjoyment in the form of entertainment. This is a game.
Time Invested vs. Time Spent vs. Time Wasted
Lag is a bummer. Dying in HC is a bummer. Keep on venting. Just try not to be delusional.

my casualties so far
lvl 9 - my fault for being stupid
lvl 6 - champ caster spawn and throws a crit at me for an instant kill (bad luck)
so have not had a lag death yet
(a few close calls though)

BTW
Don't expect too much sympathy from the Anti-HCL folks
The entire server could get wiped out by a bug and they would
sit there and laugh at us.
I hope they do a complete server merge soon,
tired of the crying.

I'm pretty sure a lot of people after leaving the game will post a final goodbye message on the forums. No dissonance in there. Delete the game, post a few messages on the forums the next day, and then gone for good.
If he is still posting here in a week, then maybe you could say that. It would be like someone who doesn't care about HC but keeps checking the HC forum.

As an observer I think he was expressing a sincere opinion and doing nothing wrong. It's frustrating to lose a character on HC, especially when lag contributed. Unfortunately where does SSG draw the line and if they make exceptions it probably won't end up being fair.
Tough situation all around, the only way to ensure a positive HC experience is to not participate and transfer all the free goodies to your main server. Anyone that participates should know going in you may die an unfair death. 3 people died in death smile when the server crashed over the weekend - I mean they only died due to that crash - as far as I know nothing was done to help them.

He was trying to make some constructive criticism towards SSG for a HARDCORE ONLY issue and most certainly not directing his comments at his fellow players who only play on LIVE servers. The entire point of the hardcore league is to survive the encounters in the game, a healthy game, not a broken one. As all players note that there is some lag on live servers, the lag experienced in this instance was ONLY experienced on hardcore; as a result, SSG needs to be informed that something that they are doing is BROKEN (a fact) and needs to be fixed. Therefore, as any intelligent person would comprehend, the purpose of this post was to inform SSG that this issue needs to be addressed. Furthermore, it was not posted to receive a trite response from other DDO non-hardcore players and most certainly not any dolt's sympathy. Kind, thoughtful, and considerate people encourage and uplift others.

Constructive criticism, really? All he said was: we had a lag on hc, we want compensation.
"Constructive criticism is the process of offering valid and well-reasoned opinions about the work of others, usually involving both positive and negative comments, in a friendly manner rather than an oppositional one."
Exactly the same lags are in ddo for at least 5 years (probably few more than 5, but i dont want to exaggerate). Lag is not hardcore only issue. For years SSG is trying to fight lag, almost every update we can see "we did something to reduce the lag". There's no need to inform them about the lags, they know about them and they admit it for years. Game is broken for years, hc is not a game written from scratch, it's exactly the same ddo on new server (and it's new virtual one, not new as completly different hardware). The only hardcore only issue is permadeath and it's your choice to participate and take the risk despite the knowledge, that lag and unfair death/wipe can happen without warning. It's like sports betting. You can bet your money on race and horse might break his leg, but stuff like that: of course it's rare and unfair, but can happen and noone will care about it, cause you should know it rarely, but sometimes, can happen. And definitely lags in ddo are not rare.

Judging by the lack of response by the dev's, it's safe to say they don't care as long as the money keeps coming in.

DDO is laggy and has been for most of its existence.
HC is a "you die you are done" format.
It just is what it is. Anybody expecting to play a character indefinitely without dying to lag at some point is not looking at DDO as it is. They're looking at DDO as they would like it to be.
I have absolutely no issues with somebody complaining about the reality of the situation. Asking for compensation though is just whining. You die you are done and what killed you is always a known factor.
Suck it up buttercup.

Hi, welcome. You're obviously new around here. See, there are subject specific forums. You'll notice at the top of the page it says Forums > Servers > Hardcore League. That let's you know that the OP was referring to HC.
This is a helpful way to avoid this forum since you obviously do not value HC play.
If you were aware that this is a space dedicated to discussing something you don't like, I think it was a petty choice to enter it solely to make such an unkind reply.
OP, congrats on making it to 30. I haven't made it past 9. All my deaths have made me a better player as I've learned something with each one. Death to lag hurts because you don't even get that.
It makes me wonder if there's an anti-lag build or strategy. Maybe auras? A Radiant Servant ticking heals, a Pale Master or Enlightened Scholar ticking damage? I wonder if reactive abilities like the one Arty forcefield or a Shadar-Kai invis would trigger during lag.

There has always been a percentage of people, that no matter the circumstance, what ever the problem.... any pointing out of issues would result in the immediate criticism of the person stating the issue. DDO can do no wrong.... period. You are wrong, they are right and if you do not agree it only shows you are inferior to them.
Then you have the outright liars..... In 10 years I have never experienced lag of any sort, therefore you and the 1000s of others have no right to complain.
THE SERVERS CAN NOT HANDLE THE LOAD PLACED ON THEM......its like running photoshop on a x386 with 16MB of ram and declaring that it runs just fine. Sure I did edit my photo, so technically, it did do the job.... but life would have been a lot easier if I used a 4ghz, with 32GB ram and a 1080TI
Turbine..... there is no lag in DDO, just your crappy computer
Warner Bro...... there is no lag in DDO just your crappy computer
Standing Stone..... We, the former employees of the a fore mentioned companies, having our hands tied and being prevented from initiating the much needed changes and fixes have banded together to purchase DDO and make DDO a game of the people, by the people and for the people......BTW there is no lag in DDO just your crappy computer.
