So twice now I've teleported to Eveningstar only having to teleport back to ship, logged off for hours, relogged and I still have to wait for the timer to get back to Eveningstar. Is this an issue? Why in the world is this timer so long anyway?

Also, is there any other way to get to Eveningstar without completing Spinner of Shadows?

You can choose to go directly to Eveningstar or Eberron's hall of heroes on the character select screen

This is a premium feature unless you're iconic

Forgotten realms--> a virtual key to New lvl 6-14+ Forgotten realms adventures and new areas.

:)

Other than my wish for new Forgotten realms quests and zones, the simpliest thing you can do is to speak to the Spirit binder at Eveningstar. You can go naked (to avoid item damage) and use death teleport option to Eveningstar.

You can do this for all zones that are hard to reach (including Portable Hole, after using a scroll of teleport with umd skill and then binding your spirit there)

[ The shop option with points: Pass to Forgotten realms. You simply log out and then log back in Forgotten realms at log in screen]

If you own the Keep On The Borderlands, you can go through that portal via the Heroes' Hall ...

Yes. Bind your spirit in the eveningstar tavern, and when you want to go back, /death it.
First order of business when I go there each life.

I've managed twice to start mustering only to do something dumb and interrupt it.
Interrupting the muster stops your teleport but the cooldown timer still activates.

I can make it from eveningstar back to most quests within the quest reset allowance.

The key timer only counts down when your character is online. It pauses once you log off and continues counting when you log back on the character. I think the timer length is now half of what it was originally.

First Inn/Tavern in Ravenloft also has a teleport option to eveningstar.

If you have the Bottle of Mist you can teleport directly to this Inn. It's on a short cooldown (not like key to eveingstar), and this Inn also has easy access to sell/repair vendor + bank. Perfect for a Hub :)

Its 30 Minutes. It was originaly 1 hour

And doesn't need to be longer than 60 seconds. The extended timer is pointless.

I can't remember if it was stated that it will be reduced for the upcoming U45, but SSG have some legally binding stuff if I remember correctly, that forces them to keep the key at such lengthy cooldowns if I remember right. Don't know if they've managed to wrangle out a new deal and can now reduce it to a lower cooldown. The other ones aren't affected so they were 60s ones thankfully.

Yep the timer length is controlled by WOTC

Indeed, something about not wanting to trivialize the hop between worlds, or something like that.

Was it the cooldown getting reduced in U45, or was it the induction time? I thought it was the latter

That's my understanding too - WotC let them go to FR with the caveat that it shouldn't feel totally contiguous with Eberron. They didnt want to confuse their properties or blur all their lore together.

Lets be honest, even if it was only the Induction Time being reduced, is that really a bad thing?

You can virtually afk to put the kettle on, brew a cuppa, then get back and it'll just about be done (on the Key to Eveningstar at least anyway :p)

But I could be mistaking the Induction Time reduction here, as I was only quickly glancing at the stuff before. But again, ANY cooldown would be nice right now for the Key.

They sell going back and forth in logout screen for money. Why would they give you eady key usage for free?

I actually bought this when it was on super sale a while back for I think 125 pts. Honestly, worth every point.

As for actually getting back and forth...Ravenloft and Borderlands are nice shortcuts.

If you have a horse, it's really quick to get to the Eveningstar Cavern to get back to your guild ship so not too bad.

I've never seen any actual dev quotes on the cooldown being a WOTC licensing thing, as far as I'm aware this is purely player speculation. If anyone has any evidence for this then I will stand corrected.

They sell a no cooldown teleport via hall of heroes in the DDOStore, you just gotta log out to do it. Kinda defeats the purpose of making the cooldown long for WOTC if they sell a bypass for five bucks.

We're kidding about it being a licensing thing, right?

That would quite possibly one of the stupidest licensing requirements I've heard of in some time, and I've seen some cake takers (usually involving week long debates on the size of a plush character's mouth... differentiated by less 2 cm).

This sounds like an urban legend.

How so? I got the key for free, for doing quests, and it's not removed on TR.

It’s the truth. I don’t remember the details but it was communicated by Major Malfunction, one of the cooler devs, a long time ago. The key is strongly tied to licensing.

If the whole point was "you can't have a short cooldown on your key because if you can travel easily between worlds it's bad for lore or WOTC's IP" then selling a no cooldown teleport completely defeats the purpose of that. You can also use your bottle of mist (if you shelled out for one) and exit through ravenloft.

You being able to earn the key by doing a decent chunk of the MOTU expansion's content and it persisting through TR is irrelevant, there are other just as easy ways to bridge the Eberron/Realms divide, they're just behind a paywall.

It takes time, either way. Cooldown on the key, and having to log out, and go to Eberron/FR both take time, and make it clear that it's not easy to get from one place or the other, and since it's an expansion, and one has to pay to access it, either by buying it directly, or via VIP, it makes little difference either way. Is the cooldown excessive? I'd vote yes, but, if it's because WotC said it had to be, then so be it. It's substantially shorter now than it was, and it's possible that they shortened it as much as WotC would allow. A license does not infer ownership, so it's more than feasible that WotC put limitations on it.
