View Full Version : Bad EDF implementation rediscovered

I recently got my first melee toon (VKF assassin) to cap, and starting really grouping seriously just this past weekend. Mostly in Sharn. It was reaper, of course, but a lot of fun. However, I was often unsuccessful at rez’ing fellow dead players. My scroll would be consumed and nothing would happen, even though my UMD roll (no fail) was successful. And it just occurred to me why this is likely happening. EDF and the touch range restriction.

I know that I’m 18 months late to the discussion, but can someone explain to me why my melee rogue, who really needs the extra HP, should be disallowed from rez’ing a teammate unless within touch range because I have EDF active? And I’m a bit annoyed that I lost my scrolls, which matters because I’m not infinitely plat rich yet. They cost a lot. If in fact this is what is happening, then this was, is, and will continue to be a really bad implementation. Just why, SSG?

Epic Defensive Fighting

Either go defensive or cast spells, or spell like effects from items further away?

thanks, i never get tired of saying that edf is an abomination, the worst idea and uttermost trash ddo has ever given us.

let's support melee. they need help. some balance is needed.

roger that, i have an idea, a stance that just freaking everybody get, with a couple of paragraphs of some convoluted mechanics. yeah let's help melee, let's lower their usefulness, let's hinder their crossheal, i have an idea, let's make so that a melee need a healer but can't heal the healer back cause grouping is important. let's make so that only the ranged dps\casters can dps from safe zone and rez\heal freely. and let's melee juggle with their bonus hp on\off while in close combat and possibly in the worst possible moment, like, when trying to prevent a wipe. and since we are at it, let's add bloat to their hotbar for no reason whatsoever.

corrupt a wish. 1 step forward and 3 back.

sure, we are gamers and we are highly adaptive mean beasts. sure we can deal with that. sure no big deal. it's just a game. but the edf CONCEPT is hot garbage. it's a thing that should not be. it makes me scream how and why.

this is the most constructive feedback i can provide to edf.

Yeah I wish they would make an exception for resurrection scrolls and clickies. Some of the band aids added to the game specifically due to reaper content could really use a little more polish.

I can't answer for the why, but my general method is to stand next to their corpse and cast there; it's pretty solid to practice with like Cocoon (hop by someone, hit them on the way) but it gets super annoying when dead players are running around. I wish you could cast on their soulstone, because it won't move and troll your cast...

Yup, having to tell people to hold still for raises is something that I still encounter from time to time.

Not a bad idea; I wonder how viable is it.

Would also be neat if when you tried casting a rez spell with no target, it defaulted to the first soul stone in your inventory;
The logic could be:
- If player selected:
-- If player Dead: Cast on them
-- else (player is NOT dead): No target, spell is not cast
- else If soul stone selected: Cast on player for soul stone
- else If stone in inventory (like a spell component check?): Remove stone and cast on player for soul stone
- else: No target, spell is not cast

THIS!!!!

As the OP mentioned, we are 18 months into EDF. FFS if you are expecting a melee to rez you STOP MOVING OR FOREVER REMAIN A SOUL STONE.

I figured on a soul stone sitting in the open? But in-inventory would be cool too.

EK is also on the list :) just because there's a Wizard flag doesn't mean I have range...
