On the Rogue Enhancements Tree, there is Shadow Dagger. As a 15th level Rogue Assassin (Dex Rogue with Dex 28), it seems like I should take this enhancement. But, it only does 8d8 damage at maximum enhancement. This damage level is peanuts at level 15. But, alas, it says damage scales to 400% of melee, does this mean damage can be more than 8d8? yes, I know it does the blind the opponent, but not sure if the trade off is worth it. After all, one essence of DDO is trade offs.

Any thoughts on Shadow Dagger enhancement?

When INQ have 14d8 law damage for "Every single hit" with IPS multi-target, "SINGLE" 8d8 damage for "Each every 10 sec" is just super weak.
Even if it is changed to 80d8, it would be weak.

For blind portion, insightful deception provide no-save sneak attack chances.
And Shadow dagger have too low DC to work, and SUPER SLOW to activate.

Devs should reconsider about "Passive AOE DPS VS Active single target DPS".

@OP: I have not used it, but it reads like a weaker version of "Shadow Lance" from Shadowdancer, which I have used. That one scales fine, and can provide a bit of extra damage, if you can fit another active attack into your rotation. VKF "Fan of Knives" and Shiradi "Wild Shots" are both better, though, because AoE.

Would I spend 3 heroic AP on it? Probably not, unless I had extra points to burn. However, since the introduction of universal trees and extra racial AP, I find that I usually come short. So the real question is, what would you have to give up to get it?

Also, for sneak attacks, check Radiance Greensteel, Deception items, Mechanic "Thunderstone" (at least that one's AoE).

A number of active or toggle abilities are not that good in the Assassin tree other than Shadow Dagger. Envenomed Blades and Bleed them Out are not worth taking either for the ap cost. Only reason to take one Poison Strike is for the Weakening and Deadly Strikes once you have the level and action points to take them. Outside of that the DC's are terrible even on an Int build. Heartseeker Poison is only one to take just for the Fortitude save debuff to use with Executioners Strike from Shadowdancer once you hit Epic level.
