been trying to address lack of dodge (bought a belt with dodge on it), and went to Tethyamar, where i noticed that the drow were really wailing on me.

So i'm back in town attending my my own wake again in the pub, when i'm fooling with my equipment and i notice:

equipping my dusk heart increases my AC by 12 (44 to 56). I didnt have it equipped because im wearing a ring of shadows (with a dex aug) - they're both concealment so shouldnt stack.

removing the RoS doesnt affect AC, and removing dusk drops AC back to 44.

THEN i put on dusk heart by itself, and go to 53 AC, with addition of RoS putting me back to 56.

none of these items should give AC according to their descriptions.

Anyone know what's happening? I will have to see if the extra AC helps vs my nemeses, the vile drow, curse their beady eyes, when servers come back up.

(EDIT: the removal of the RoS makes sense now, it's got my only dex booster, so removal dropped my dex-armor bonus , but the dusk thing still is weird)

I'm still learning this game, but i realise that THAT didn't make sense :P It's late. to clarify, it's a few weeks old dusk heart with a +5 str colourless augment, and a ring of shadows (elite) with dex +6 colourless augment.

no trinket, no ring:
ac 44.

+trinket (but no ring):
ac 53

+trinket +ring (ring added after trinket)
ac 53

BUT

if the ring is added first

+ring (no trinket)
ac 44

but then adding the trinket:
ac 56.

and i'd like to thank mr concavenator for his enthusiasm today :)

Maybe take off all gear and try one at a time? Or try each w/Dusk Heart?

It seems like something isn't stacking as intended, or Dusk Heart has some hidden bonus lol.

I know this one! The STR augment gives it away. Encumberment. You are going from light to medium and losing your DEX bonus when you take off the trinket.

EDIT: DEX bonus capped at 3 with medium encumberment to be exact.

Yeah, I've pestered so many here for the last 18 months or so to learn this game that I'm happy (and surprised) when I can finally answer someone else's question :) Also, as a halfling rogue enthusiast, I've learned to monitor encumberment very closely until I get a large enough STR to not worry about it. I still leave tower shields, plate armor, and other really heavy items in the chest out of force of habit.

If you're still in epics (as your signature indicates, I haven't seen you in-game in a few) you can get a +6/8 Str augment super easily, which will mitigate most carrying capacity issues :) Also a good candidate for Favor/plat tomes.

Yep, I always slot one for end game. It's easily enough STR to not have to worry about it.

EDIT: I've been around, mostly soloing & assassinating my way up Epics one quest at a time in the quietness of the US Pacific Coast primetime :) I've been trying to run every epic quest once, just finished 3BC (Level 25) and will be moving on to Wheloon & Storm Horns next. The only quests I've skipped so far are in Sands, which I dislike with a passion. After that, I'll be less than 1M xp from cap, so I'll probably jump straight into Leg. Sharn and start farming for my Sigil of the Triumverate. I haven't been able to handle EE very well on this first life assassin, so I've been running EH the whole way, which also allows my Assassinate to continue to work, though I'm using it less than before. Still having fun! :)
