This is currently planned to be the only weekly restart going forward. We believe work done before the holidays will have allowed us to reduce back to a single weekly restart without endangering server performance back to unacceptable levels. We will monitor the effect this has over the next few weeks.

You'd be wrong. Lag was bad, really bad, this weekend.
In almost every mission I ran Sunday, we experienced one (sometimes more) periods of 60s+ stuttering and rubber banding. Multiple deaths were caused by said periods of lag. I also saw multiple people mention they were logging off due to frustration with the lag and the deaths throughout the day.
It also wasn't just my group. People in other groups and raids were complaining of the same lag in some of the shared chat channels.

Sorry dude, but if the lag I saw in PN at 9:00 AM MST yesterday (Khyber) is any indicator, you should probably reboot the servers DAILY.

Yeah, I mustered all of my self control not to post regarding the hellatious lag from the weekend. This is really gonna be horrid. The game is already bleeding end-gamers and raid related peeps due to the lag. While a group might recover in an EE run after a 20 sec full group lag lock, it's a complete wipe in higher skulls and many raids.
Cordo, have the devs considered 'pimping' out Lamania for groups/guilds to rent for raiding, high skull questing? Might be a possible cash cow if the main servers continue in their current condition. We joke all the time now about a Gland 'sign-up' sheet for peeps to reserve raid times to not cause lag for one another. The servers can't handle more than one raid group at a time without a noticeable loss in performance and that's with the 2 starts/week.

Yeah I did the same thing after hardcore. Its like they just make it up as they go along. Until there is a serious change in game lag being fixed this game has to be free to play for me as well.
Try doing the Too Hot Too Handle Raid on anything other than norm and the whole raid crashes no matter how fast you kill stuff.

So now that we know that the weekly restarts are now permanent, can one of your QOL passes deal with the Guild Airship reload? Its kind of insult to injury that not only do the servers have to be restarted, but the ships still take hours to repopulate...

QoL issues like airship aside, I just wish they put it closer to the weekend. Wednesday might help Friday raids, but I don't think they will last for Saturday night unless the changes are new to this week. Friday shutdowns the last 2 weeks lasted till Sunday/Monday. Lets hope they review this soon.
Personally if only 1 shutdown then I think it best Thursday or Friday just to keep weekend raids going, or Mondays so by close of business Thursday they would know if another is required to get through the weekend. Middle of the week makes them out of office when the lag hits, and by the time they get back it is almost time to do it again so why bother doing it early. I have not clue what goes into it on their end, but I just feel they may have picked a less then ideal day if the lag only stays away for 2-3 days.
Maybe they will keep this thread open, or have some set place for us to post when the lag starts hitting. My money is on Saturday night, based off shutdown last Friday lasting 48-72 hours prior to lag being a problem. Prove me wrong.

Joking aside, what are you short term plans to get rid of the crippling lag? I know of at least 3 or 4 people that have ran with regularly that were vip that cancelled their subs and quit or taking a break from the game. Raiding anything higher then EH is basically a roll of the dice nowadays with them being loaded to lags favour

So Saturday Night is here, so is the lag. Wow I am so surprised. Is only someone had said something about this earlier...
Well see you all Wednesday night for raids.... oh wait I work during the week and can't stay up all night... Well I guess I will raid again SOON™...
Anyone know any games that will take my money for allowing me to play them how I want, when I want? Oh right, EVERY other game out there does that, guess that is where DDO is special.

The last restart didn't really seem to do much to help the lag. Have not seen it this bad in a really long time. Hope you can find the cause and get rid of it. Very bad impression on any new or returning players. I would not start a new game with these issues, just move on and find something else. It was workable, what happened lately?

As a heads up: DDO will not have it's usual Wednesday restart this week. We are preparing a small patch that won't be ready in time for a tomorrow morning deployment and want to avoid multiple downtimes in the same week.
Stay tuned for a downtime thread (targeting Thursday but not yet set in stone).

Great, hopefully it helps a bit with the lag that is still present. To provide an anecdotal experience since the patch last week, I think overall lag spike incidents on Orien have decreased but there were still a couple periods of near paralysis in quest. That being said I think both times quests were completed successfully but it was not an enjoyable experience to say the least. It seems like the 2 or 3 days after the patch were best but then things really hit over the weekend. The past couple of days have been reasonable as well, I don't remember any paralyzing lag spikes yesterday or the day before that.

I finally figure out what it was doing. Say there are 250 patches to be done. It will get through, for instance, 25 and hit an error. Then it will restart with 225 patches and go until it gets an error and starts again.
It will continue to do this until all the patches are successfully done.

Logged in this morning to play for the hour I had available today to see the Hardcore shut down again, for a restart, though that was presumably included in yesterday's entire day of outage. Not mention last week's outages, and the week befores....

My account is a mess since the update yesterday. On my main(Einnor) I cannot join groups. He was in the starter area when I first logged in after update nd now when people try to invite me to a group it tells them I cannot join as I am in the starter area even though I am nt. My other characters get message that I cannot enter certain content areas as I have not bought the content when I am VIP and have access to everything. I have also sent multiple tickets because of this and that Einnor cannot spend an action point in my enhancement tree.
I cannot even lay the game right now and I am getting no response on a fix. The in game support told me to contact help through the website on the enhancement tree issue a few days ago and when I did they said to ask in game help to fix it.
I do not know what to do.

One time, I was showing some new features of my software to a client. The client said," These new features are amazing." I thought things were going well. Then the client said," I don't need any of these features if I can't keep the platform stable. Please stop building new features and focus on stability." If this gets us more stability, awesome. If not, please take some time to reprioritize your roadmap to make things more stable. It's a good game, but after so many years, it has some rough edges you guys should just clean up, like stability. I hope I can come back to this thread next week and say great job guys!

It has more than 4 hours that you cannot enter the servers, please what the hell has happened since I changed administrative company, it fails too much, I am seriously thinking about not renewing my subscription to the game, it is too much time lost, continuous errors, connection jumps and they no longer have anything to offer and they have also removed things from the store such as invitations to other characters to learn about the mission and see if it is worth buying or not. I am seriously disappointed in DDO

Good afternoon from Mexico, I have not found the words to express my ideas, but I think it is time I have been a player for more than 11 years on this platform called DDO and I have to say that I had a great time on it with friends and family, but I think I'm tired I have several disagreements with this game:
1 The VIP every day is more unmissable, the only use they have is the% of EXP they give because it does not give anything more since I already have almost everything and it is a horrible that despite paying 99 dollars a year at the top you have to pay for each new expansion that comes out at an excessive price since the game has too many herrors and problems that are more noticeable every day.
2 Its happy pass that they gave away that gives access to all adventures is a lack of respect for all those who have old accounts and that it cost us dollars and time to achieve them.
3 The appearance of the Guild is crappy, it lacks too much work once it reaches 200 and there is no point in continuing to do anything else.
4 The item creation system is horrible and unnecessary since you always get items that no matter how much you have craft skill 999, you can't do anything similar to a lvl 15 sharm item.
5 Your ongoing server repairs and updates are a headache.
I hope this message is seen by people who support my way of thinking and that the game admins think about how to fix the discontent of this that I know is not only mine but many people within the server.
Make it worth it, that we spend another time in vip and not think that it is just a waste to do it.

Well put. Another "standard" reboot that's taking longer than expected, which means they're making modifications without communicating to their community. My guild, which has dwindled to nothing despite being a founding guild on Xoriat now Thelanis, is slowly shifting to f2p because of this. I find little incentive to pay, and am finding less incentive every day to even play. It's heart breaking to have been here since beta, to have finally achieved every past life in the game three times over, and honestly considering uninstalling the game because of horrible performance, load screen issues, and lack of communication from SSG or whomever owns DDO these days. I know it's not the norm, but I'd love to see a small break from content development for an honest effort in improving performance. There is a huge chunk of players with vast knowledge of IT infrastructure that can help. Temporarily allow us to run some PCAPs, review some logs, and I bet we can save DDO.

Just on the forums now because of the server reboot and I rarely post. I see a lot of posts like this and I will just put my thoughts on this one for all of them.
This game shouldn't be your whole gaming existence. It's a really good game that has lasted a long time and improved tremendously over the years. It has provided most of us with a ridiculous number of hours of enjoyment, but it's not perfect or infinite. It can't be either one, ever. If you've done all the stuff a bunch of times and all you can see are the flaws move on to play and do other things. At least move on for a while. Come back in a couple years to see what's new. We each have to decide what's best to do with our time. Guilds breakdown specifically because lots of the members, wisely, move on when they've exhausted the content available.

Devs have basically said that this kind of thing in Heroics doesn't get the kind of interest or numbers that they'd like it to, and that 'capped' raiding is more popular there.

It would actually be more relevant to re-write the original post and put "downtime typically lasts no more than a few hours"
The scales seem to have tipped from less than an hour, to more than a few hours. Or have they ever been able to do a server restart in under an hour? I am pretty new to this game, so my knowledge base of their service downtime accuracy is quite small. So far I am unimpressed.

I'd say one of the bigger problems is that they do not always communicate very well with players.
For instance, sometimes there are no updates or explanations whatsoever about why there are delays.
Other times, there are- but not here. I seldom go on Facebook, but it is reported that at times, updates have been posted there (but not in the forums).
I'm not trying to suggest that players need to have their hands held at all times, but it would be nice to have a head's up, now and then.

We are currently tracking the downtime here (https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/523808-Downtime-Notice-Wednesday-6-15-PM-Eastern-(-4-GMT)) rather than in our weekly restart thread, but the worlds will remain unavailable overnight while we investigate and work on a game update. There is one thing I still do not understand.
Why do you even bother to turn off the LAM test server?
Now if you dropping a new build on it, well of course you do a wipe but there
is no downside to keeping the server up otherwise.
It would give you a LOT more feedback on whatever the current build is.
More info should be better.
It just doesn't make sense.

And before anyone starts screaming that its regular wednesday downtime cos cordovan said so some time in the past, well that cannot be used as an excuse cos sometimes its down on wednesday (or tuesday, or thursday, or any other time they feel like) and sometimes its not. Its rude and lazy not to tell customers what is happening.

All I know yes game crashes lost contact with server like every day about 20 minutes into the game. Extremely disappointed two or three raids had to ignore raid loot cause it crashed on me at very end. Contacted steam support wanted me to copy files I am afraid of them are currently social standard vision whatever trackers are or malicious site what is it a fetish trend something god himself wouldn't even subscribe to. paranoid of malware sharing files personal data breach, I get some games from Japan better on DL site for adults. Went to PC repair guy I don't trust maybe its that wanted to say files are erased removing a hard drive yet I just took out my old one and copied all my files saved them with a hard drive connector for 5 bucks what's going on. Maybe I'm just reading fine print hopefully June 11th as Windows XP is jettisoned mass of bad graphic computers not really worth playing I hope its fixed.

Well , as a counter do you pay your contractors extra to do a poor job then. Although I don't advocate cancelling a subscription, I do advocate not paying a lot of money for poor execution. I did drop my VIP last November so i could control when I paid for something according to the quality of the game's execution and the direction being taken.

No normally it is about 1 to 1.5 hours every week at same time and it's not too bad. However,
This week it started way early with no warning and nothing on forums about it. They are very hit and miss on customer service announcing about extra downtime. Also seems they can't get an admin with the basic skills to start a broadcast in game at least an hour before these downtimes start. Sometimes you will get a 30 second warning if you are lucky that the server is coming down. Nothing like just starting the last boss fight on a quest/raid and getting the server will be coming down in 30 seconds... which was delayed to lag and the server going offline 5 seconds later.

I get a notice once in a blue moon. I have seen them as you specify. 1hr to 15 min. I have to say I have not seen any as of late. Not sure if its lack or prep on ddo part or latency or ? It appears to be spotty at best the notice. But as I said before. Why start a raid on a day you know its going to go offline? Most even say they know its going to go offline for restart like always and ya don't get notice.

Give me a call if you get your act together enough so I can actually play the game.
I went to ESO last July and cancelled my DDO VIP. Many of my now 10 years DDO friends did stop or are considering stopping VIP.
Too many signs that the game is heading at the wall. Ok some of you will say we are negative. Face it.
And if I voice my concerns, this is not to bash or be discourteous with SS. I wish they did the right thing to save DDO.
I placed a ticket in November to address the consequences of a way the reincarnations work, only lightly identified in forums and in a short WIKI recap page, burning some of my resources and I am grateful to have received exceptional compensation from SS for the loss. Only, this was resolved 12 weeks after the ticket was placed.
FYI I now have the experience of other MMO's with ticket turnarounds of 24 hours max and few min time responses to in game tickets.
I like the specifics of DDO, and I am nostalgic of the time we were offered creative content.
Too much to do apparently to fix playability issues and software obsolescence. I like DC casting. This area probably has taken one of the strongest hit from the last updates. Mob targeting issues, spells not landing in lag circumstances, spell resistance in specific quests being completely out of wack. The practical examples of misfits are still very numerous.
Too bad, I'll continue watching and playing DDO now and then with my friends, but it will take a real major change for me to endorse this game again.
I bless the efforts of SS to make progress and I unfortunately doubt the pace of the current attempts to adjust the shortcomings will make any substantial difference.

So this is neither here nor there--and definitely hats off to SSG for working diligently to fix said issue. However, I do find it interesting and a bit illogical that the two games that SSG develops come out with major updates on the same day at the same time (Both LOTRO and DDO had updates, both starting at 9am EST ending at 11am EST. I suspect there is some synergy or outright duality between the support/implementation teams of both games.

ESO has nice graphics but what broke it for me is that Balmora looks nothing like it did in TES III: Morrowind.
I really liked that town, it was a nice hub for quests and I would have loved to relive it in an MMORPG but it was not to be.

Holy **** it looks so much better. My ESO remembrance is "looks great with meh mechanics."
Nothing beats "d20" mechanics - also ESO really limited the character versatility that makes the single player elder scrolls so fun (and broken). DDO is the only one I've seen come close to having some truly fun apparently functional character versatility. I will make whirling steel work if it's the last thing I do!
Anyway, It's my first server downtime since I haven't played in years and it's now over an hour the servers have been down which is disappointing cause I saw this thread and was like "oh sweet, only an hour downtime."

I was having an issue logging in. I downloaded new launcher from DDO website, then found out how to launch 64 bit version and it worked for me.
