View Full Version : DDO is dead because

A few things destroyed this game.
1. The is supposed to be D&D not a generic fantasy game.
The D&D core rules were all restricted or changed with horrible mechanics that does nothing to balance or improve the game.
PRR, MRR, grazing hits, Melee power ranged power, etc. All those abonimations should be removed from the game.
It is a 10+ old game most ppl trying it is because the D&D name, some just keep playing because the same reason but it is not D&D anymore.
2. Build divertsity is dead.
Since the "legendary" quests arrived a whole play style is beeing destroyed. With the absurd broken reaper thing implemented melees died completely.
If you are not playing Wizard, sorcerer or X levels of rogue inquisitive you are a support build.
Stealth was erased from the game. Healers types are pointless. Support like spell singer bards just dont exist anymore.
I know that there is still casual mode in the game that second tier classes can play but it is just not fun.
3. Teamplay is gone.
Since EDs grouping is beeing nuked. First everybody can heal back to full with 1 cocoon then nobody can heal except aasimar monks and pms.
Healers are dead not because others can heal but because one shot mechanics. It is not possible to heal anybody when mobs can hit you for 50k damage.
Tanks are horrible to play with very few interesting abilites. And to complete the destructing of grouping EDF arrived. When ppl started to heal others.
Even in raids most ppl play their own game, soloing a side and ignoring the rest of the group.
4. Balance, yeah balance.
This game had the best combat system i ever played but this part of the game is completely pointless because melees are total garbage now.
Champions are a great idea but totally ruined because the one shot mechanics. many abilities are completely broken like some dots taking way longer to go away.
Mult proc spells one shotting capped toons even with you are wearing an absorb item. Aura effects appliyng dots or damage and the most absurd fire elementals as ice something champs.
The constant buff of caster and ranged build while every update melees get nerfed. Not a single comment in any melee thread by the devs.
It is impossible to make all classes and builds balanced, i know that. But the way the game is now is a joke.
5. Pay to win
Most of the problems killing this game are because p2w, yeah it is a business and they need to make money.
To me they could sell completionist feats in the store, if we can still get in game. Those w/o time or that hate tr need to have an option.
But push the difficult just to sell uneed power creep is bad. Thats why they implemented reaper.
Every update the stats items goes up just to sell the new thing, because it is easier to come with real cool new itens.
Just sell cosmetics and stop to scam players with "wpm content" or "borderlands content" if it dont come with the packs.
6. lag
I dont know if they are broke and using **** servers, if the code is too broken or what.
But one thing helping to make the lag worst is the power creep. The game just cant handle it.
Thats it, im tired of typing and they are going to ignore it anyways.
Lots of typos and bad english i know and like the devs i dont care.

Before the sunshine and roses group start posting, let me say I agree with all of what you say.
Some are going to post, "The game is fine. Everything is fine." but those people are fooling themselves.
Those are the people who are in some guild bubble that only play with a limited group and more than likely don't see the rest of the game declining.
You have to have your head pretty deep in the sand to not see the trajectory the population has taken in the last few years, and even in the last year.
Yes, people have said the game is dying for years. But just because it hasn't shut down yet doesn't mean those people were wrong. Just because it is still here doesn't mean it is healthy. It's a dying carcass crawling across a desert with no end to the desert in sight.
There is only the high-end niche players left and they are the ones being catered to. Those people ONLY want to play the most overpowered classes and nothing else really makes a difference. If they can stomp through R5 to R10 content they are happy, no matter what. Other classes, play style, choices, those kind of things don't matter to these high enders and, therefore, those things don't matter to the devs.
I've never seen a game with so many options and 99% of those options are garbage.
With that said, I still love the game. I went away for a month or so, but I'm back. I rolled up an inquisitive and now I can stand in the back of the room and hold the attack key down like the rest of them. I spend most of my time running backwards trying not to get stuck on corners or lamp posts holding down the attack button, wheeeeee.
A team of usual suspects shouting every good suggestion down on the forums in a pattern based / quantity based fashion, running interference against any deviation from the status quo, putting logic on the bench while substituting in their belief system that the lights still being on equates to all being fine.

WPM content and KotB content ARE cosmetics.
If you think devs don't care why post this?
Just ranting, or?
although I agree with some of your rants, it's kinda hard to support you with that attitude.

7. Lack of pvp.
Honestly im not fan of pvp, but i do understand a lot of people see it as must have in mmo game, especially the younger ones who look for good mmo rather than any d&d based mmo. I even know few people who left cause of lack of pvp. We've got few packs per year, but i think there was no pvp update since 2006. Sad fact is that you cannot sell pvp bundle in store (it would be ridiculous), so i doubt it'll ever happen. Of course fanboys will say hurr durr there's no need for pvp in d&d, but again - it's ok if all you care is playing d&d based game, but most of younger people even don't know what is d&d and they're simply looking for good mmorpg.
8. Newbies unfriendly policy.
Korthos cool. But what next? 30 f2p quests which are extremly boring, almost all of them are sewers and warehouses. Obsolete platinum limits in the world where platinum itself is obsolete too. No chance to reach lvl 20 with f2p quests only if you won't farm them 100 times. Items - if you won't be lucky with random gen loot you can run naked. There's 0, literally 0 good items in easly achievable for newbies content. No boosts for first life character - imagine you're totally new in game and all what you see in lfms is r1-3. Yeah, go away, you're 100% useless. Host norm/hard? Sure, but i wonder who will join. Population is already low enough that you can wait hours for r1 popular quests. ED - if you somehow reach lvl 20 you can delete character anyway, without ED you'll be useless (maybe except healbots). Even stupid 1 day of vip for first time 1000 favor on server would be improvement - will allow newbies to explore more interesting content and cause of it get convinced that the game is nice. And those are only examples, there's much more reasons why new players find ddo mechanics cool, but the game as a whole just stupid and unfriendly.
If you wanna try to make people pay for literally everything - well done. If you wanna convince people to play and stay in game - it's not 2006 when they would kill for a chance to play without subscription. Of course soon someone will say: hey, you can farm points and unlock everything for free... Firstly if you don't play 10 hours a day it's not a matter of week or two to unlock basic things (ed, enough packs to reach 20) and it's not fun for new players, secondly the games have evolved since 2009 and ddo will never be able to compete with new, shiny, games with much more friendly mechanisms, much bigger population, much easier for newbies, without requirement of paying just to enjoy the game etc if ddo will stick to 10 years old mentality and even not try to catch up in "friendliness".
9. Grind, grind, grind
If you won't spend few years in game, you're nothing. There's huge gap in powercreep between new character and ubercompletionist with 10mln rxp. I do believe everyone knows what im talking about.

Come on, the only reason they have the pack names is to click bait ppl.
That is a scam. Just like advertize packs or expansions with 2 raids but deliver just 1. Then sell the raids like another pack(Like they did with thunderholm).
I really think nothing will change but we need to tell the truth.

We could have a huge pvp map like kings forest or barovia.
Create a new server like they did for permadeath is bad because it hurts others servers.
Then it lead us to the main problem, theres not enough players in this game.
But their goal now is to milk whales not keep or find more players.

DDO is clearly not dead. But it is steadily losing population for many of these reasons as well as an incredibly toxic community here on the forums, encouraged by SSG moderation policies. I don’t think that SSG is trying to create a toxic community. They’re just bad at doing the kind of moderation that makes a community healthy and naturally positive and promotes toxic mandatory positivity instead.

The OP is clearly an account created to circumvent a ban, so the thread is now closed. You are welcome to discuss how the game is dead for many years to come elsewhere on the forums. :)
