View Full Version : Racial flavor builds

I finished another inq life, and I must say, I'm ****** tired of them.
I have 6 racial lives to do: 1 elf, 1 half elf, 1 halfling, 1 tiefling, and 2 human. I want FLAVOR builds for all of them.
I have tenative builds for bard, assassin, and fire sorcerer. Warlock is also a contender, but I've done a lot of those, too.
Seems like a barb build would be fairly simple, THF in spite of the drawbacks? Or SWF with bsword or khopesh?
Scimitar tempest for the elf? Wood elf better for anything? What is a half elf best suited for?
If anyone has a fun flavor build they think is super, I'd like to hear about it.
Thanks for any suggestions.

For elf you can do a WSS longsword build. Start with a few levels between ranger (2 ranger) and monk; at level 9 and 10 you will take fighter levels and already have IC slashing, adept of forms, ITWF and 6 monk for shadow veil. From there I would another four levels of fighter and then the rest does not matter. Dex-based, and you will have rapid shot and quickdraw/10K for shuriken as a ranged option. Fast stealth build if you take DWS faster sneaking and stack it with ninja.
I have a toon parked at 10 with this split and she rocks.

Hmm.. monk. Didn't think about that. I have a monk life, obviously, in heroic completionist, but it was so long ago I don't remember much about it. I'll have to roll one up and experiment. Might be a very good idea.

First, I have to say that, to me, stopping at 2 racial PL's is a non-intuitive choice. I'd think that the free Racial AP is the whole point of grinding the first two, no?
Anyway...
For (H)Elf, you could always go classic gish...

(Un' has a lot of other flavor builds floating around)
For Human, here's a fun one that was tossed out recently - not strong in end game, def "flavor", but could be a lot of fun.*

(* I tossed together a Vet II version to try it - it was fun! And a good Trapper, with or without great DPS, is always welcome in a group.)

No. The point is, to me, +4 almost everything. But it is the way it is because I like to have each life different from the previous. Short attention span, I suppose.
Thanks for the links. I really like Unbongwah's builds. They always seem to make sense.
And, I don't think I've ever done a wraith.

One reason I love this game - there is no "right" way except how each player interprets that for themself.

A wraith rogue - sneaks like a monster, too.

What is a half elf best suited for?
Probably...Inqui :)
The major usable piece of flavor for Helf is probably the Dragonmark SLA. Its not worth the feat+AP normally, but you're not looking to make worthwhile choices lol
You could pair that with anything that makes good use of Lightning spells. Maybe a pure Arti Arcanotech if you still want a non-inqui ranged build. Maybe a Lightning Savant Sorc. But I'd probably go with an Air Caster Cleric. You'll have four Lighting SLAs to mix and match, and you can use Thrummingspark for a boost to your Light spellcasting too.

I like Druid wolf for Half Elf because you can get all martial weapon proficiencies for free with Half Elf. That means you don't need a level in Fighter or Barbarian to make it work and you can save the 2 Barbarian levels for late in the life.

It's not exactly a flavor build, but half-elf Air / Fire Savant with warlock dilettante feat (extra fire damage to every spell) and Dragonmark of Storm (just for Call Lightning Storm which should've been buffed in U38). I was thinking something like this:

Do what you want with the last two heroic feats. I mean, you're a sorcerer; does it even matter at that point? If you find yourself too squishy, you can shift APs from Fire Savant to Eldritch Knight for the defensive buffs (i.e., armor, Arcane Barrier, etc.).

Air Caster Cleric. Now that sound flavorful.

Actually, I was considering that for Human for almost the same reason. The jerky running of a Human drives me crazy. SSG should replace that code with the Aasimar animation.
I TRed into a Human rogue/wizard last night. I'll try sneaking around until I can do wraith or something. Have a mount, so avoid running as much as possible.
Then, Halfling greataxe fighter/barb. After that, wolf druid elf. Then, recalculate.
Thanks for the great suggestions.

1 elf, 1 half elf, 1 halfling, 1 tiefling, and 2 human
Flavor builds I did:
Elf: Pretty sure I did a couple Elf arcane archer builds when I was doing these racials (aka non ranger). If you have a lot of racial AP it helps this builds a lot, although they're solidly in the flavor column as they're no inqui level of damage by any shot. (Pick up a ravenloft belt and at least you should 1 shot a few elite enemies).
Half Elf: Air sorcerer with the dragonmark is both a fast life (air sorcs are OP) and a flavorful life (do something no other race can do with the dragonmark). Other thing half elf does well is having a much shorter intimidate cooldown then other races; but tanks suck for leveling so I don't recco that.
Halfling: It's the #1 race to do shuriken lives with. Great in epic; and in heroics they're not that bad if you farm up a good offhand to use with them. Also good for handwrap monk or other dex based light melee builds.
Tiefling: Fire sorc is the obvious choice. Swashbuckler might work out fine.
Human: Umm... it's ok at every build. But THF builds are fairly strong in heroic levels and don't have to listen to annoying crossbow sounds or sling spells that instantly clear entire rooms.
