I love the idea of a rare that always spawns for ETR-POT preparations so the crest idea is pretty good.
I love it when the wilderness has unique loot.
I love how you finally figured out where collectables need to be placed: at dead ends of immense beauty with little other mechanical point (aka waterfalls and high places)
I love all the places you can jump to. DDO always wakes the parkour in me.
I hate the ladder. 101% of the time, the arti dog climbs it and bugs out to get that barrel. PLS remove
I hate the wildlife. There is no point for it to be clickable: it can be fluffy background noise, not take over my targeting.

I wish there was a monster manual for 'benign fauna' or something containing birds, squirrels, frogs, deer... Part of me is wondering if there is a spawn mechanic attached to them in the borderlands like in kings forest and stormhorns with the dryads, and we just haven't figured it out yet.
but in general, yes, this wilderness is becoming one of my favorites. right up there with Cerulean Hills and Red Fens and Vale. It's beautiful, well thought out, I love the walk-up explorers, you can actually memorize the rares and run your route instead of having to rely on often buggy random encounters... oh and you can actually get to all explorers without pulling tricks or rolling dice. mob spacing is dense enough to keep you running and slaying for quite a bit, but not too dense to cap out after two runs. Very well done. Could use a higher slayer cap though to keep me happy! was a bit disappointed when my slayers capped out and I was still missing a rare.

Fluff animals (and breakables) do serve a purpose...they're chaff. They're there to make you pay attention to what you're targeting, and help somewhat obfuscate actual mobs and interactable objects
The devs dont want you to just mindlessly spam "next target" and "target next object" while you run around and if something pops up you know immediately its useful. Makes it a bit too easy to auto-play. At least with all the squirrels and frogs, if you're just shooting everything you can target while you're running, it eats up attack cycles. And you cant just run around spamming backspace to find crests, keys, collectable nodes, etc.

I also love the KotB wilderness zone. Yes the slayer cap could be higher say 3k, but other than that its just so beautiful and the verisimilitude of the fauna and mobs, the placement of landmarks, terrain, and even roads- it just very pleasant and sensible. It has nice feels.
Things that struck me as particularly fine touches... obviously the Standing Stones, occasionally there's a bear in the cavelet, the rotation of mobs at the camp, cows by the farm sometimes, swarming gnats (which should be added to Red Fens... because swamp), magic fountains, love the faerie circle.
Small... uhm not disappointments exactly because its all so well put together... more like missed opportunities. Rare encounters aren't always something you fight but sometimes just something you come across and with which you get to converse such as the Gargoyle on the Cerulean Hills. You can fight him or you can just talk to him. I wish there had been a pixie like the ones in Party Crashers that you could occasionally encounter at the Faerie Circle and have a dialogue.
Likewise the Massive Oak just screams for a dryad encounter, whether that be conversation or battle. The enormous evil statue also seems... lacking... because there is no encounter there. I think it would have made more sense if the Fiendish altar were a part of the statue or if there had been some rare encounter associated with the statue. There is an altar on the backside of the statue but nothing we can do to interact with it or even destroy it. I really wanted after slaying the goblins around it to bash it to pieces but no such option. Nor is there any reason to approach it ever again after getting the location.
Now more than ever, I wish DDO had a /fishing emote, so I could take a fishing pic from the Lizardfolk camp or the fisherman's hut while adventuring.

Yep. And I don't have a problem with the animals being live targets.
However. . .
If I'm in a wilderness area and I can kill it, it absolutely needs to go to my slayer count.

It does in High Road :)
Which is especially funny because the counter there reads "slay menaces in the High Road". Those deer sure are a menace! I guess maybe to the local's backyard gardens :D

when I first started on kings forest and high road, I was running around like a maniac yelling on mic 'wooohooo squirrels!' which prompted one of the guys I regularly ran with to admit that he is deadly afraid of squirrels... and he meant it! so up to this day I kill them as a favor to him :)

No it does not. Those animals especially in Kings Forest and Storm Horns have a questing purpose within the wilderness.

Corrupt a wish, We now have CR 30 Squirrels and deer that agro on us and try to kill us.
Deer doing massive gore crit damage from being gored at top speed by 12 point antlers.
They do the same damage as getting attacked by all six blades of a Marrelith with the same trip overun attack.
CR 30 squirrels attack by running up you pant leg and do a DOT damage until you kill them by turning your weapons on yourself and subjecting yourself to you own attacks.

This reminds me of the "epic chicken" on one of the NWN servers (which is still up and running on the Steam version).
Bonus points for anyone who remembers that or gets the reference.

Or just have the deer wait for you to pass by, where the will run out and crash into your horse...

If this came about can you imagine if there were rabbits?
The DDO Store would make a killing selling holy hand grenades!

I like KotB wilderness a lot.
It's just the right size, and though you need to travel to dungeon entrances they are close enough that it's not a chore.
My only issue is that named drop rate is too low, been running one full rare hunt per day last several days and although getting ~7 rares each time (which is nice, unlike Wheloon rares which appear approximately one rare in 3 clears) they never gave any named, feathers have nice drop rate, but named are nonexistent.
Which is funny since when i farmed feathers during first week in Epic diff, I was getting named items at nice rate.
First week named drop boost, anyone? (yeah I know SSG claims it's not true, but in my experience it is)
