Depends on a lot of things. What level/class they are, where they should land, etc. Right now neither of the 2 toons I run the most use a feather fall item. One is a monk with slow fall, the other is a warlock with feather fall (that I cast often to give temp HP).

I've fallen pretty far before when getting the 'Oops' when teleporting before actually equipping a feather fall item. I mean.. usually I just re-teleport, but I know there was at least once I didn't.

All of my characters permanently wear Feather Fall items.

I'm tempted to unequip Feather Fall items prior to using teleport, however, just to enjoy the occasional pear shape and ensuing splat.

I would never gimp myself by equipping a ff item no matter how far I am falling. Feather fall is the absolute worst thing in the game. Also fall damage has a really low damage cap and a bit of tumble negates that entirely if you actually cared about that.

Without Featherfall I've made it down the initial shaft in Coal Chamber as a rogue without taking fall damage or hitting ledges. As a monk, too, but that's easy mode.

Restless Isles & Reaver's Refuge. In one it doesn't matter if you have feather fall or not. And in Reaver's Refuge... the fall from airship to water, leap and I don't care how far down it is just get there as fast as possible. With feather fall, I think the leap lasts roughly 17.3 million years.

Often times I let them fall all the way to the ground. When teleport messes up and I fall from the heights of the marketplace, hitting the ground rarely does more than minor damage.

Generally speaking, zero feet. I always have feather fall on. I prefer how I fall with it, not damage. So if it is useful, I take it off. Like if I fail a teleport and want to go to the marketplace anyway, I just take it off. Or if I am doing Coal Chamber I take it off for the drop down, though I usually put it back on just before landing.
