View Full Version : Calamity's Carapace doesn't look as if it had been made from a spider

Hello,

I have one logical problem.

In the Waterworks, there lives a giant spider called Calamity.

There is a possibility to get an armor piece called "Calamity's Carapace".
Its item description claims that it was mde from this spider's parts, but - and not comes my logical problem - it doesn't look like that at all !
It rather looks as if it had been made from an owlbear.

My guess is that this design failure ( I call it like that ) must be very old. Maybe someone wanted to adress the common fear of spiders.

No-one seemed to bother, because all people want is stats, not look. My fear i that most players would have their characters wear the most underworldly ugly looking items if these had superior stats. ( Well, that would be a way to troll power-hungry players. :p )

I however, as as story player, want a more consistent world.

In my opinion, this item should have been called differently OR given a different look.
Or, the other way round, create an ownbear's named item which looks like made from spider parts. :p

I do wonder how people could play a game, look at stats only, and not care about the look of their characters. I wonder, because this looks to me like a form of detachment from a game I will never be able to understand. Play a game in a specific game world, but not caring about the game world ?
That's a thing I can't understand.

I have one logical problem.

Just one logical problem in a world inhabited by dragons who breathe fire and fly? Ok, but things in the real world that are actually made from spider-stuff don't look like they were made from spider-stuff either: https://edition.cnn.com/2012/01/25/world/europe/spider-silk-cape-on-display/index.html

This is also a world where spiders are eusocial colonial organisms and scorpions are burrowing ambush predators...

I dont think SSG knows how invertebrates work :)

That being said, yeah that's an owlbear. But, to be pedantic - the armor itself might still be made of spider, the description says nothing about the ornamentation :)

It's a new creature: The Spowlbear.
