The weekly restart/patch wasn't enough? I hope I'm alive when it comes back up.

Yeah specific to hardcore server....guessing someone tripped over the extension cord and unplugged the Atari 2600 processor that powers that beast.

If not I can see a large forum post of people who died when the server suddenly went down

There was no announcement of it going down... my guess is a crash OR someone forgot to remind an intern that the Hardcore server is actually a production machine. ;)

Alternately they found something "overperforming" and shut it down before it could be exploited.

It was an Atari Lynx. Much more responsive.

RULE 87 of Hardcore:
Let the lemming-squad test any game patches/fixes to Hardcore for about ~4 hours before going back to the waters of Hardcore. The pH may be off.

The cause of the crash has been identified and we are working to bring the world back up currently.

Hardcore server should currently be back up and open to players. We will continue monitoring for instability.

That makes it sounds like there's a good chance it's going to happen again. Should we hold off running quests for now?

No. All should be well. Whenever an event like this occurs we have heightened monitoring for a while after. Standard procedure.

It looks like you rolled back by 10 mins to half an hour. Can you confirm this?

Good news for anyone that died in that 10 minute window I guess.

Edit: Ooh, maybe one of the devs died in regular play on H/C and pulled the plug just so it could be rolled back! Discuss!

It's the other way 'round: when Hardcore Server dies, IT has to restart at Level 1.
