Do you return to level 1 if you epic reincarnate on hardcore?

Obviously if you do an iconic or heroic reincarnation you will have to start again at level one (HC rules). However I read on one of the forum posts in "How did you die", that someone did an epic reincarnation and had to start again from level one (and then died).

I was looking forward to my own epic reincarnation and starting again from the 20s. So I would like to know what to expect before taking the plunge. Are reincarnation rules also altered in hardcore?

There's nothing that you can do to survive that, no possible awesome play that would make a **** difference. Here is a single pot of damage that is greater than your total hit points+temporary hit points

Yeah, sure I can move the character over to a real server in november, where it can rot with 1 epic past life as it's so far behind my "real" characters ... .

No, no you don't. :rolleyes: (EDIT - EXCEPT ON THE HARDCORE SERVER!)

(Edit: NORMALLY...) After any Iconic or Heroic (or Racial) Reincarnation, you "start over" with any "new" character build you want - Heroic (Level 1) OR Iconic.(Level 15). There is never a "trick" to getting TO or FROM Iconic to Heroic or back again - you finish that life, then Reincarnate as approp for that past life, and it's new build time.

The only time you are stuck w/ the same thing is Epic, from 30 to 20. Then you can either do another Epic life w/ the same build (from 20), OR follow that up* w/ a Heroic (or Racial) Reincarnation.


(* Some have reported bugs if following that up ~immediately~. Best practices, apparently, are to log out for a short time, make sure the game has caught up with your recent 30->20 change (make a meal, put some clothes in the wash, something), ~then~ log back in and go ahead w/ the next one.)

This doesn't sound right. I agree that if it's a bug, it's scary, but I'd like to see the original complaint and the commentary about it. I can think of no (legit) reason that anyone should "die" while doing any Reincarnation.

On the hardcore server Iconics start at Level 1.

I am mostly concerned about the current HC server event. (https://ddowiki.com/page/Hardcore_League) In it a lot of rules are tweaked. In that server iconics start from level 1 with no experience. Because this rule was already altered, I wouldn't be surprised if epic reincarnations were also altered. I wouldn't mind playing again from 20, but I don't want to start again from 1 (because I don't have the time and my character will for sure die and be stuck in perma death).

All the stuff I bought for that character now permanently gone. Supreme tomes, Skill Tomes, Exp Pots, treasure pots. Goodbye Hardcore.

Okay, in your first post I had thought that you were reporting that someone died during reincarnation - "He reincarnated and then died". My misread.

Yeah, he def went from Iconic 30 back to 1. This is, indeed, how it works on the HCL server, and the only Reincarnation choice an Iconic has.

But the question of a standard Epic reincarnation remains - dunno, sorry. :/

My Character was a "normal" non-conic character.
I did an epic reincarnation and became level 20, I gained an epic past life feat, just like on a normal server.
Then I immediately did a Heroic reincarnation and became level 1, just like on a normal server.
