WoW classic is coming out soon. And people are thrilled about it.

I've been asking that before, and you said its kinda impossible.

But maybe is there a way we can have the same here? (Back to U9, before LoB, Challenges and Sands scrolls trader).

Idk. There's so many different paths to updating the game that they've taken with each update that it'd be very difficult to cut it properly.

I liked DDO more before EDs, and I'd like a classic server that removes EDs and beyond.

Maybe a classic server isn't quite the way to go as SSG doesn't have the same resources as Blizzard, although something like a heroic only server could be interesting.

Maintaining two separate code bases would be a massive resource drain; it's the same reason LOTRO went with a progressive type server where it opens up bit by bit with expansions but otherwise is the same as all other servers. I suppose they could do a DDO level progressive server (start at lvl 4 cap?, expand it by X levels every Y weeks) type thing without needing to fork stuff. As long as the Y weeks is long enough to keep interest, you'd have a lot of parked characters for groupings in each bracket as it advanced. But the question would be if it would have enough interest to merit a dedicated server.

If it's going to be really "classic" let's roll the clock way back. Let's have only 4 spots for enchantments to spend out Action Points on - no trees. Let's let Curse spells last forever - dispelled by a Cleric/Remove potion is mandatory. Same with Blindness. Let's put the Big Red Tent back in the Marketplace, and let it "eat" characters who wandered too close and can't get back out again unless they took a Death Taxi. Let's put back spell-failure on even a twitch of movement - unless you had Cast on the Run. And half of House K is blocked off because VoN hadn't launched yet. And, the caves in the Threnal wilderness area were the best loot-runs in the game.

Farming an item so you can level? Yes, we should totally go back to that. That was clearly a great idea.

Why? Have you not seen enough of korthos and harbor?

Pulled my first Vorpal weapons from there.

That's all well and good just as long as they don't mess with the Fire Caves.

Then back to the era with no Korthos, and harbor was much different.

Also, only 3 bag slots and 1 bank slot, because there was no favor to earn extras and no store to buy them in :)

And, the caves in the Threnal wilderness area were the best loot-runs in the game.

And lets re-enable XP Debt so should you die to many times in a quest you can actually exit it with less XP then you entered.
( And have it regenerate by logging out in a tavern as it did in the day.)

And lets remove all quest scaling based on party size. All quests scaled to a party of 4 regardless if the party is a solo
Individual or a full party of 6.
And also. 1 use only shrines regardless of the quest difficulty.

And the only SP pots available are the ones that you find.
No SLA's so Spell Point management is one of the best skills as a caster you could have.

And bring back the "Good Blade" quests that had to be completed prior to being able to enter the Harbor.
And also make the completion of Water Works mandatory again before you could pass through the gate from the Harbor to the Marketplace.

Yeah that was the real hardcore server. ( 2006 play when max level was 10 could be brutal )

But 3BC was so tiny then. And only had 4 quests if I recall correctly.

Only if we get the magical sheltering shroom back along with it. The days of can your baby character outrun the giants long enough to loot their chest and get to safety under the indestructible mushroom? :D

Idk why folks are taking such a laugh at this idea. There have been many updates recently which scared away players, and it's not completely unreasonable to talk about what a classic server would even consist of.

We're not laughing AT the idea, we're laughing WITH it. ;)

Taking it for an amusement ride, as most/all of what we're discussing is stuff that is SO archaic that it's likely impossible to reproduce even if anyone really wanted them to.
